NJCAA Football Week 6 Preview

The Week 6 schedule in NJCAA football features three matchups between ranked teams, including two battles in the Top 10...

NJCAA Game of the Week

#2 Iowa Western (5-0) at #5 Georgia Military (5-0)
Saturday, 1:00 p.m. (ET)

Hitting the road for one of the biggest games in their program's history, No. 2 Iowa Western will continue their national title defense Saturday at No. 5 Georgia Military.

The top five matchup could turn into a ground battle as two of the top running backs in the nation square-off. Georgia Military freshman Jovon Robinson leads the country with 181.4 rushing yards per game and 12 touchdowns on the ground this season. On the other side of the ball, Reivers sophomore Akise Teague ranks fourth in the land with 124.3 yards rushing per game.

Despite both offenses presenting high-caliber running games, Iowa Western has an edge at quarterback. Sophomore Connor Brevard has thrown for 761 yards and eight touchdowns in 2013 without an interception. Bulldogs freshman Pat Thomas has 563 yards and five touchdowns through the air this season but has fallen victim to five interceptions.

Defensively, both squads rank in the top 15 in points allowed. Iowa Western's defense ranks second in the nation, allowing just 5.4 points per game. Georgia Military has given up just 15.2 points per game in 2013 and ranks first in the country with 10 forced fumbles.

Other Key Games Around the Country

#4 Copiah-Lincoln (4-0) at #9 Jones County (4-0)
Saturday, 2:00 p.m. (CT)

One week after knocking off top-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast, No. 9 Jones County faces another top five foe Saturday when No. 4 Copiah-Lincoln comes in. The Jones County Bobcats boast the top wide receiver in the country in sophomore JaMicheal Willis who ranks second in the nation with six touchdown catches and leads the NJCAA with 159 receiving yards per game. Copiah-Lincoln will look to counter Jones County's high-powered passing attack with a devastating pass rush – led by freshman defensive lineman Demond Tucker – which ranks second in the country with 21 sacks.

#11 Arizona Western (4-1) at #17 Mesa (4-1)
Saturday, 7:00 p.m. (PT)

No. 11 Arizona Western and No. 17 Mesa will battle Saturday for a key WSFL victory midway through the conference schedule. The Mesa Thunderbirds have one of the top quarterbacks in the land in sophomore Blake Kemp who ranks second in the NJCAA with 375.2 passing yards per game and is tied for first with 17 passing touchdowns this season. Matadors freshman quarterback Tyler Rogers is an exceptional signal-caller in his own right, completing over 69 percent of his passes and throwing for nine touchdowns on the year.

#16 Louisburg (4-0) at Dean (4-0)
Saturday, 11:00 a.m. (ET)

The first key game in the NFC will take place Saturday as No. 16 Louisburg heads north to take on undefeated Dean. Sophomore Adriell Mayers leads a stable of Dean running backs with over 125 yards rushing in the two games he has played. Mayers and the Bulldogs will need a big effort on the ground as the Louisburg defense ranks fourth in the country with nine interceptions and fifth in sacks with 18 this season.
