NW Mississippi's Barney is a rising star

Northwest Mississippi DT Tarow Barney (6-3, 285) is a rising star among JUCO prospects. He's received 10 offers over the past few weeks and recently took an unofficial visit to Alabama. Rangers assistant coach Ricky Coon updated JCFootball.com on all of the talented defensive lineman's suitors as well as his future plans in the coming weeks...

"Tarow has offers from Penn State, Illinois, Middle Tennessee, Iowa State, Miami (Ohio), Texas-San Antonio, UAB, UTEP, Cincinnati and Colorado and he just took an unofficial visit to Alabama and, as long as his transcripts meet SEC transfer rules, they could be offering pretty soon too," Coon told JCFootball.com. "He's going to visit Iowa State this weekend officially. That will be his first official visit and I am pretty sure he's visiting Penn State on the 22nd (of November) so things are picking up for him."

Because of his ideal size and athleticism, Barney was already a target on teams' radars, but once they got a look at his productivity -- 36 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 9.5 tackles-for-loss and one forced fumble in nine games -- and his quick first step, schools have come calling.

"When we got here in January, we got a look at him and he was probably 255 or 260," Coon recalled. "He really got after it in the weight room and really just blew up sizewise and now he's a lean and cut 285 pounds, so schools really have just started to become enamored with him and they like him and that's where the offers started to come from."

Barney is on pace to finish up his two-year degree in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he winds up.
