Top Performers - Defensive Backs

Several top JUCO defensive backs had big games over the weekend including ASA's Malacchi Esdale whose ballhawking skills came in handy in the Avengers' big win over Nassau to win the NEFC Title. Here's a look at what he did as well as several other top performances...

ASA S Malacchi Esdale - Esdale finished with four tackles (three solo) and two interceptions as ASA won the NEFC by downing Nassau by a score of 37-7. The freshman has totaled 29 tackles and four picks so far this season.

East Mississippi CB Allen Sentimore - Sentimore had three tackles and an interception he returned 43 yards in the Lions' big 61-24 win over Jones to take the MACJC title. This season, Sentimore led the entire country with eight interceptions while also posting 39 tackles in 11 games.

Arizona Western S James Crockett - In the Matadors' 38-22 loss to Pima, the freshman totaled eight tackles and a pass breakup. While playing sparingly in the secondary this season, Crockett totaled 22 tackles and four pass breakups.

Scottsdale CB Andre Fils - Fils posted eight tackles (six solo) and two pass breakups as Scottsdale won the WSFL Title with a 45-31 win over Mesa. This season, the sophomore has totaled 74 tackles, one interception, three forced fumbles and seven pass breakups in 10 games.

Butler S Brandon Dozier - Dozier had six tackles (all solo), one forced fumble and an interception as Butler beat Hutchinson by a score of 24-21. The sophomore has racked up 53 tackles, on interception, one forced fumble and a pass breakup in 10 games for the Grizzlies.

Santa Monica S Tyler Hasty - Hasty, a bounceback from Oregon State, posted seven tackles (five solo) and an interception while helping lead the Corsairs to a 36-13 win over L.A. Pierce on Saturday. The redshirt freshman has totaled 26 tackles, a forced fumble he took back for a touchdown and four interceptions in eight games so far this season.

L.A. Pierce CB Max Lyons - The freshman totaled 10 tackles (five solo) and two pass breakups, but the Brahmas still fell to Santa Monica by a score of 36-13. This season, in nine games, Lyons has totaled 29 tackles and three pass breakups.

West Valley CB Andrew Rios - Rios had a game 10 tackles (seven solo) and 3.5 tackles-for-loss in West Valley's 59-35 loss to Cabrillo.

L.A. Valley S Zack Kelley - Kelley totaled 11 tackles (five solo) and a fumble recover, but the Monarchs lost to West L.A. by a score of 32-27. This season, in nine games, the freshman has totaled 44 tackles and three interceptions.

East Los Angeles S Anthony Smith - In the Huskies' 48-7 win over Compton, Smith totaled four tackles (two solo), half a sack, two tackles-for-loss and two interceptions. This season, the freshman has totaled 56 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, half a sack, four interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, four interceptions and five pass breakups in nine games.

Riverside CB Isaac Colunga - In Riverside's 40-0 win over Desert, the sophomore totaled five tackles (four solo) and an interception. This season, Colunga has posted 34 tackles and five interceptions in nine games.

San Bernardino CB Sergio Granados - The freshman corner totaled nine tackles (four solo) and took an interception back 79 yards for a touchdown in the second half of the Wolverines' 48-30 win over Mt. San Jacinto last weekend. Granados has totaled 55 tackles, a sack, an interception, two forced fumbles and five pass breakups.

Mendocino S Diondre Toms - Toms has played sparingly so far this season, but in Mendocino's 61-28 loss to Shasta over the weekend, he managed to post 10 tackles (seven solo), 2.5 tackles-for-loss and one sack.

Bakersfield S Joey Stuart - Stuart had seven tackles (four solo) and an interception in Bakersfield's thrilling 17-14 win over Allan Hancock.

College of the Redwoods S Eric Rossman - Rossman totaled two interceptions and seven tackles (five solo) in the Corsairs' 30-0 loss to Contra Costa. In nine games, the sophomore has posted 44 tackles and five interceptions.

Butte S Deonte Flemings - Flemings returned an interception 64 yards for a touchdown and posted two tackles (both solo) in Butte's 84-7 win over Foothill. This season, Flemings has totaled 50 tackles, four interceptions and a forced fumble.

Diablo Valley S Derrick Johnson - In Diablo Valley's 27-8 win over Sacramento, Johnson had seven tackles (five solo), one sack, a tackle-for-loss and two pass breakups.

Laney CB Yusef Sterling-Lowe - The freshman finished with four tackles (three solo), two tackles-for-loss, two interceptions, two pass breakups and a blocked field goal in Laney's 49-28 win over Reedley.

Saddleback S Doug Ruggles - Ruggles totaled nine tackles (seven solo), one tackle-for-loss, two interceptions and two passes defensed in Saddleback's 53-42 win over Grossmont. In nine games so far this season, the sophomore has posted 64 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, five interceptions and six pass breakups.

Sierra S Zack Starnes - In Sierra's 35-32 loss to San Joaquin Delta, the sophomore totaled five tackles (three solo), half a sack, three tackles-for-loss, on fumble recovery and a pass breakup to go along with two interceptions he returned for touchdowns of 32 and 94 yards.

Citrus CB Charles Flowers - Flowers had two tackles and two interceptions in Citrus' 58-31 win over Long Beach. This season, the sophomore corner has totaled 48 tackles, one sack, four interceptions and a forced fumble to go along with five pass breakups in nine games.

City College of San Francisco CB Uriah Harris - The freshman had two interceptions and three tackles (two solo) in the Rams' 40-17 win over Santa Rosa.
