Sauvao Will Be Patient

Golden West DT Mark Sauvao (5-11, 290) recently took a visit to a Big 12 program and said that, even though he didn't come away with an offer, he will wait on things and see which schools come after him later this month and quite possibly into the spring...

"I visited Iowa State this past weekend and it was a really good visit," Sauvao told "They showed me a great time and I got to meet with the coaches and spend time around the players.

"When I talked with the coaches they told me they need to see my progress academically and also where they are as far as their numbers and they will get back to me.

"I really liked them a lot and I'll wait to see what happens with them before I make a decision."

That decision might be a ways away as Sauvao doesn't have any FBS or FCS programs that have offered yet, but he has seen interest pick up over the past month.

"I've talked a lot with Eastern Illinois, New Mexico State and Texas State and they could be offering soon, but right now, things are sorta on hold with them," Sauvao admitted.

Sauvao prepped at legendary Kahuku High School on Oahu in Hawaii and decided to enroll at Golden West when he was unable to qualify to play football at a school.

"My uncle knew the defensive line coach here (Nick Mitchell) so it was a place I already had a connection to and I've really enjoyed playing here," Sauvao said.

He is poised to graduate in May and he will have three years to play two starting this fall.
