A New Offer For Goltry Who Can Leave Early

What many recruiters don't know about Chaffey OL Nathan Goltry (6-2, 305) is that he can leave this summer. This week has seen recruiting pick up for the freshman offensive lineman and he said he's contemplating a decision that could come in the very near future...

Goltry enjoyed a solid freshman season for Chaffey last year, starting the first seven games at center for the Panthers before moving over to guard for the final four games as an injury replacement.

"It was a lot different than playing center," Goltry said with a chuckle when he spoke with JCFootball.com recently. "It was like 'you mean I don't have to snap the ball and I can actually fire off and hit someone?'"

The road back for Goltry has been long and painstaking.

After graduating from Beaumont (Ca.) High School in 2011, he enrolled at Chaffey when no four-year schools gave him much of a look, so he decided to enroll at Chaffey to further his status as a prospect.

"We were a relatively small school from a small town of like 30 thousand people, so I didn't get much attention," Goltry recalled. "I enrolled here and even played in a game, but then I came down with a virus and I couldn't play and I lost like 60 to 70 pounds over the course of a couple of months.

"I de-enrolled from school and I had to appeal to the NCAA to get my year back, but after a lot of time and working out and eating and all that stuff, I am finally back to my old self and back to where I want to be weight-wise and strength-wise."

Another obstacle that Goltry has had to overcome is his status as a qualifier with the NCAA, something that he has endeavored to work hard at clearing up before it gets too late in the process.

"Because of I have my years back, I wanted to make sure, if the right school came along and wanted to offer me, that I could leave this summer," Goltry said. "I was talking with my coaches and advisers and they said I wasn't listed as a qualifier, so I had to call the NCAA and get them paperwork and stuff and that cleared it up with them, I am a qualifier, but I have to let coaches and recruiters know that I can leave if they want to bring me in."

Three schools ponied up offers the past couple of months and one more just came in yesterday.

"Marshall actually offered me yesterday and they will be out here next Tuesday (April 29th) to meet with me and I will find out if they want me this year or in December after the season," Goltry said. "Nevada offered me a couple of months ago and I have offers from Texas Southern and Tennessee Tech which are FCS schools."

Because of his qualifier status, if Goltry decides to leave Chaffey this summer, he will have four years to play three, but he could opt to return and he then have three years to play two following the season.

We will continue to keep in close contact with Goltry over the next few weeks as he gets closer to making a decision on what he plans to do and will update news on him as it happens.
