Settles Flying Under The Radar

A JUCO defensive lineman that is flying under-the-radar this year is Pasadena DT Craig Settles (6-4, 310). He will be redshirting this year while he finishes up his two-year degree and he told JCFootball.com that while he's hearing from a couple of schools, recruiting is off to a tepid start for him...

"Right now, I've been hearing from Old Dominion and Texas-San Antonio and there are a few others that I have talked too, but those are the ones that I have talked to the most," Settles told JCFootball.com recently.

Using his outstanding size and strength to go along with a surprising athleticism that includes a 4.84 40 yard dash last summer, Settles racked up 28 tackles, four sacks, 11 tackles-for-loss and a forced fumble while playing both inside positions all season.

"I mainly played the three-tech spot, but I played some over the nose or as a shade (on the center)," Settles said. "I'm a big guy and I think I surprised a lot of people with my quickness, so that was a big advantage for me. I also use my speed and my hands well too."

One reason many may not know much about Settles is because he has burned through two years of his eligibility already and he will be a redshirt this fall while he finishes up his two-year degree.

"When I was in high school (Hoover High School in Glendale, Ca.), I didn't even play my junior and senior years because I was having some academic issues," Settles admitted. "That's a big reason I wasn't recruited, but it was also because of my grades. I just didn't get it done, but here, at Pasadena, I've been really focused on it and it's helped me out a ton."

Settles played for PCC as a freshman in 2012 and then last fall as a sophomore, so he will redshirt this fall and will be eligible to sign with a school in December with two years to play two starting in 2015.
