SW Miss DT Has Double-Digit Offers

It is quickly becoming obvious that Southwest Mississippi DT Terrien Steele (6-4.5, 305) is going to be a name for recruitniks to remember. He already has 11 early offers and more could be in the way once schools get a look at him this spring...

As a freshman, the big and athletically-gifted interior defensive tackle finished second on his team with 49 tackles to go along with a sack and four tackles-for-loss and with that productivity to go along with his natural abilities has forced the hand of several schools who want to get him into the fold.

"A lot of my offers came in toward the end of the year last year," Steele told JCFootball.com recently. "I've had Auburn since I was in high school. They want me to come in and play there after I finish up my degree here.

"I also have offers from Mississippi State, Kentucky, South Alabama, Alabama State, Jackson State, Southern Mississippi, Iowa State, SMU, UAB and Western Ketucky.

"I've also talked to South Carolina a lot and Oregon, Alabama and LSU a little bit too, but none of those have offered just yet, but they could pretty soon."

Steele enjoyed a solid prep career at Pickens County High School in Reform, Alabama, but he was unable to qualify for a scholarship to a four-year school, so he began to look around and he said the SW Mississippi staff and program were the right fit.

"I loved the school when I was here and I really felt comfortable with the coaches and I thought it was the right place for me," Steele noted.

He has been hard at work this offseason at adding size and strength to his already impressive attributes.

"I want to get my speed up and also get a lot stronger," Steele said. "I can rush the quarterback or stop the run and I can play the three (technique) or over the center as a nose tackle, but the quicker and stronger I am, it doesn't matter where you put me, I can make a play."

Steele is on pace to finish up his two-year degree in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2014 football season.
