Arizona Western DT Is Drawing Interest

Arizona Western DT Tramel Topps (6-2.5, 288) has seen things on the recruiting front pick up over the past couple of weeks and he updated JCFootball.com on which schools he's been talking to as well as what he's been up to this offseason...

Tramel enjoyed a solid prep career in Wisconsin, but was unable to qualify. After researching things and talking to different schools, he chose the desert climate of Arizona Western to further his football career as well as a way to get his academics on track.

"First off, it's a great school and they have a great program from a football and academic standpoint," Topps told JCFootball.com. "They have a reputation here for getting guys ready for the next level and there are a lot of schools that come by and look at you, so you have a chance to really impress people with what you can do."

What he can do on the field is push the pocket from his three technique spot, which is something he did well as a redshirt freshman last fall, totaling 48 tackles, two sacks, 4.5 tackles-for-loss and one fumble recovery on the season.

"For a guy my size, I think people are surprised with his quick I am and the way I use my hands, that really helps me a lot," Topps said. "This offseason I've been working a lot on my hand placement and my pass-rush. I am working on different moves and just getting better at that in general."

On the recruiting front, things have just started to pick up for Topps as he's been hearing from and handful of schools that have told him they are interested in what he can do.

"Right now, the schools I have talked with the most are Arizona State, Colorado State, Iowa State and North Texas, but it's still early and there are a lot of schools coming through every day," Topps noted.

He is on pace to finish up his two-year degree in December and he will have two years to play two following the 2014 football season.
