Five Offers And Counting For Contra Costa DT

After a solid freshman season that saw him total 33 tackles, five sacks, 7.5 tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, Contra Costa DT Deonte Reynolds (6-5, 325) has plenty of schools clamoring to get into the mix for him. He has five early offers and more could be on the way in the very near future...

"I have offers right now from Kansas State, Maryland, Arizona State and Boise State," Reynolds told JCFootball.com. "I have been talking a lot with UCLA and they were here (Tuesday) and they said they like me a lot and they are pretty confident an offer will come in for me.

"USC, Miami, Tennessee, Washington State and Oregon are all after me now too and I know some other schools are coming in this week to see me and meet with me."

With his size, his athleticism and his tenacity, Reynolds can play almost anywhere along the line, depending on the scheme, and his head coach, Alonzo Carter, said recently that he feels his player is only starting to tap his full potential.

"He played mainly the nose for us, but he can play anywhere," Carter said. "He can play the three (technique) or even as a five (technique) where he's over the tackle in a 3-4.

"He's really strong and he's getting stronger. He's also got that speed and quickness you just don't see in a guy his size. He can stop the run or get after the quarterback. Whatever you need him to do, he can do it. He's a talented guy."

As far as what he's working on this offseason, Reynolds said that he wants to get better in two phases of his game.

"I have a quick first step already, but I think it can be quicker, so I am doing a log of speed and footwork drills," Reynolds noted. "I've also been focused on my technique, staying low off the snap, stuff like that, so that I can keep improving."

Reynolds not only is getting it done on the football field; he's also been hard at work in the classroom as well and he will finish up his two year degree next May with three years to play two following the 2014 football season.
