Rankin Talks Sooners Offer, Unofficial Visits

Mississippi Gulf Coast OL Martinas Rankin (6-5, 285) receives his 12th offer -- Oklahoma -- and talks about a couple of unofficial visits he plans to take over the next couple of weeks...

"Oklahoma just offered me today," Rankin told JCFootball.com. "That's a really big offer and I was pretty excited when coach (Bill) Bedenbaugh said they wanted to offer me a scholarship.

"He said they are in need of some offensive linemen that can come in and challenge for playing time right away and he said I have the chance to come in and earn a spot when I get there if I chose to go there."

In addition to his offer from the Sooners, Rankin also has full rides from the likes of Central Arkansas, Florida Atlantic, Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Florida, Southern Mississippi and UAB.

"The offer from Oklahoma definitely has them up near the top of my list of offers," Rankin said. "I have started to think about the schools that I have more serious interest in and I've started to focus on those schools.

"I wouldn't call it a favorites list, but the schools I am looking at the hardest right now are Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Louisville and Missouri. There is no order to those right now, but those are the ones I am looking at pretty closely."

Rankin plans to take at least two unofficial visits over the next few weeks and he will be at one school later today.

"I'm heading up to Ole Miss (today) to check it out and meet with the staff up there," Rankin said. "I'm also going to head over the Mississippi State too, but I am not really sure what day yet.

"The rest of my visits will be official visits and I will most likely take all of them during or after my season is over. I was thinking about doing them in the summer, but I want to see the gameday atmosphere and see them live and what it's like with the coaches."

As a starter for Gulf Coast last fall, Rankin held down the left tackle spot and he said he'll do whatever it takes to get the job done.

"I move my feet well and I feel like I have good athleticism," Rankin noted. "I can run-block or pass-block pretty well already. I love being physical with guys, so I really like to run-block, but, like I said, I'm a good athlete, so pass-pro is pretty natural for me too."

This offseason he's already been hard at work perfecting his craft while also adding size and strength to his frame.

"I definitely need to hone my technique more and get more consistent with it," Rankin said. "I've been lifting a lot and running and all that stuff because I want to get bigger and stronger before we hit the field next year."

Rankin is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2014 football season.
