McAleenan Signs With UNLV

After a solid freshman season, College of the Canyons LB Ryan McAleenan (6-2, 230), who was a full-qualifier, started to gain a lot of attention and he chose to sign with UNLV back in May after showing patience with the process...

"I signed with UNLV back in May, on the 10th," McAleenan told JCFootball.com. "I am enrolled out here now and I'll be playing here this fall."

McAleenen chose the Rebels over offers from UAB and South Alabama and the promise of what would likely have been many more offers had he returned to COC for his sophomore season.

"I just liked the coaches and the system they had here and I wanted to get moved on since I could leave right away," McAleenan noted. "It was the right fit for me because of they scheme they run here, they want me inside, and it was close to home, so it was just the perfect situation and I couldn't turn down the opportunity."

As a freshman this past fall, McAleenan finished second on the Cougars with 75 tackles while also posting three sacks, six tackles-for-loss, one interception and six pass breakups.

McAleenan enjoyed a solid prep career at St. Francis High School in Glendale, California and he signed with San Jose State.

"I bounced back from there after the coaching change and went to COC to get a fresh start," McAleenan said. "I had a good season individually and we had a solid season as a team, so it was the right move for me."

As noted above, McAleenan, redshirted the 2012 season at SJSU and played with Canyons last fall, so he will have three years to play three starting this fall.
