Wainwright Commits To Cal

College of the Sequoias LB Arthur Wainwright (6-3, 219) joins Cal as a late addition to the Golden Bears' 2014 recruiting class...

"I just committed to them and signed my letter of intent today," a happy Wainwright told JCFootball.com. "I had other schools after me, mostly FCS and some lower-level FBS schools, but when Cal came around and offered, I knew it was the right place for me."

As a sophomore this past season, Wainwright played outside linebacker for the Giants and posted a team-leading 65 tackles and tied for second on the team with 2.5 sacks. He also racked up seven tackles-for-loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and an interception.

"California likes me at outside linebacker," Wainwright noted. "They like my athleticism and size and how I move around."

Wainwright took a visit to Berkeley back in April and said he came away impressed with, not only the entire staff, but also the program and the direction it is heading.

"They play in the Pac 12 and they have some good facilities too," Wainwright said. "I really liked the coaches there and I think they are heading in the right direction and it'll be fun to be a part of helping them get back to the top."

Wainwright is on pace to finish up his two-year degree in the next three weeks as he needed 10 more credits in order to transfer to the UC system.

He will have three years to play two once he arrives in late July.
