As a prep, Jones had a solid career at Rancocas Valley (Mt. Holly, NJ) High School, but he was unable to qualify, so he decided to head west to continue his football career and he hasn't looked back.
"One of my coaches had coached with the coaches out here at Pierce and he said I should look at it because it's a good school and their program is really good," Jones told JCFootball.com recently. "I really like it out here. It takes a little bit of getting used to, but I love the weather and I feel like the school and the program is getting me ready for the next level."
As a freshman this past fall, Jones shared the ball-carrying duties in the Brahmas' backfield, toting the ball 70 times for 302 yards and two scores while also hauling in 12 receptions for 189 yards including one catch he took 75 yards for a scores.
"I'm a guy who can do it all, but where I am at my best is hitting the outside and out-running guys to the end zone," Jones said. "I can make plays in space and my vision is pretty good. I like to make guys miss and then take off.
"I can run in-between the tackles, but that's probably an area I could improve the most. I am working on the strength in my lower-body and just trusting my blockers and where the holes are going to open."
On the recruiting front, Jones has yet to see his first offer roll in, but he has been hearing from a handful of programs.
"I've gotten a lot of interest from Illinois and I have been talking to California, Iowa State and my coaches said that Oregon is really interested too," Jones said. "My coaches are really making it clear that I need to just focus on getting ready for the season and that offers will come down if I do what I need to do."
Jones is on pace to finish up his two-year degree in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2014 football season.
