Simonsen Talks Recruiting

San Bernardino Valley OT Tyler Simonsen (6-4, .305) has three early offers and more schools eying his talents. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented lineman and he updated us on where things stand on the recruiting front and what he's focusing on this summer...

"My offers right now are from Akron, Kansas and, my latest one is from Cincinnati," Simonsen told JCFootball.com recently. "I have been talking to Arizona State a lot and Washington and Missouri here and there a little bit, but right now I just have the three offers."

Simonsen prepped at Redlands (Ca.) East Valley and went to Fresno State as a walk-on. While he was happy with the Bulldogs, things didn't work out on the financial front so he decided to head back closer to home to see if he could get a scholarship to a four-year program.

"Things just didn't work out there. I couldn't afford it anymore and I thought it was just better to move back here and get myself a scholarship to a four-year school," Simonsen said. "The staff here was great and I like the program and how they get your ready for the next level."

As a redshirt freshman at SBVC last year, Simonsen handled the left tackle spot, but he said he feels comfortable playing anywhere along the line.

"I probably feel more comfortable out on the edge, but I can be more aggressive and get after guys inside so I don't mind playing either of them," Simonsen said. "The things I've been working on the hardest are my strength and my footwork and I'm a captain this year, so I'm also getting on our guys to get to workouts and just making sure we're all focused on the same goal."

Simonsen redshirted the 2012 season with Fresno State so he will finish up his AA degree this fall and he will have two years to play two following the 2014 football season.
