Acker Is A Rising Star Among JUCO Wideouts

After a solid freshman campaign last fall, East Mississippi WR Brandon Acker (6-3, 185) already has three offers to his name and his expectations of a big season, both individually and for his team, will mean a championship and even more recognition from four-year programs...

"I have three offers right now -- Troy, Central Arkansas and North Texas," Acker told JCFootball.com recently. "I've been talking a lot with Kentucky and a few more schools too, but those three are the only ones that have offered right now."

As a freshman in 2013, Acker was a big contributor for the Lions, posting 34 receptions for 505 yards with five touchdowns.

"I've always been more of a down-the-field guy, but I can do both (intermediate and deep routes) pretty well," Acker said. "I've been working a lot on my speed and my footwork this offseason to help me with that intermediate and short game. I want to be better with the ball in my hands and make plays every time I touch the ball, so it's been a real focus for me this year to get better at everything."

As a prep, Acker enjoyed a nice career at Hattiesburg (Ms.) High School, but he didn't get the looks he was waiting for as a senior, so he opted to join EMCC for their NJCAA Championship run.

"I just didn't get the offers. I was a qualifier, so I could have signed with some smaller schools, but I felt like I could play at a higher level and East Mississippi gave me that opportunity," Acker noted. "The program here is great, you always face off against talent in practice and every week when you play against the teams we play against.

"I just felt it was the right place for me to be."

Acker is on pace to finish up his two-year degree in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2014 football season.
