Bingham Joins The Mean Green

It didn't take long for Southwest Mississippi DB Zavian Bingham (5-11, 190) to make a decision on where he wants to play college football. The talented corner made the decision to join North Texas following the 2014 football season and he told why he committed to them so early in the process...

"I've committed to play for North Texas," a happy Bingham told "I committed just (Monday morning) and I am really excited about my future there.

"I've been up there on campus a couple of times and I like the direction of their program and the coaches were really great. I just felt it was the right place for me."

Bingham said he plans to visit North Texas, officially, at some point in the season, but hasn't firmed up the date.

The talented corner chose the Mean Green over offers from California, Middle Tennessee, Iowa State, Kentucky, Troy and Utah State.

Bingham enjoyed a nice prep career at Terry (Ms.) High School before heading to Mississippi Gulf Coast and played there in 2012 before sitting out 2013 while getting his academics in order. However, when his head coach decided to leave, he decided to make a change himself and he switched over to Southwest Mississippi.

"I just felt like it was a better fit for me," Bingham said. "With the head coach leaving, it was good to get over here and I love it and feel it was a great move for me."

Bingham said he feels very comfortable playing in zone or in press coverage, but said his favorite thing to do is line up in bump-and-run.

"I love playing man (to man)," Bingham noted. "It's just fun getting up and challenging guys. I have good speed and I can jump. They always stick me on the strong receiver side, so I flip sides and play wherever my team needs me."

Bingham is on pace to graduate in December and he will have two years to play two following the 2014 football season.
