Smith Ready To Run Wild For Kilgore

Kilgore RB Eddie Smith (5-9, 205) has two early offers and hopes a big season results in more opportunities...

As a prep, Smith attended Grand Prairie (Tx.) High School and had a solid career there, but he didn't get the offers he was looking for and his academics needed some work.

"I had some offers from some small schools, but I wanted to give myself a chance to get some bigger offers and I didn't qualify for a scholarship, so I came here to Kilgore," Smith noted. "I had some friends who came up here and said it was a good school and a good program and I'm loving it here."

As a freshman in 2013, Smith totaled 720 yards and seven scores on the ground, leading his team in both categories.

"I had a good season, but I definitely plan on a bigger year this year," Smith said. "I'm a between the tackles guy. I'm a downhill runner. I like to plant my foot and go.

"This offseason, I've been working a lot on exploding out of my cuts, my footwork, and I'm also working a lot on ball security."

On the recruiting front, Smith has two early offers and another FCS power-program looking his way.

"I have offers from Georgia State and Saginaw Valley State and I've been talking with Sam Houston State a lot," Smith said. "I haven't set up any visits yet and I'll probably do that after my season, but I know for sure I will take Georgia State."

Smith has gotten his academics in order and he will finish up his two-year degree in December with three years to play two following the 2014 football season.
