Top Performers - Defensive Backs

Last weekend there were several standout performances by some JUCO defensive backs. Here's a look at who stood out including a big performance by El Camino S Mikey Jurado...

El Camino S Mikey Jurado - Jurado had a huge game in El Camino’s 40-23 win over Saddleback on Saturday, posting five tackles, two pass breakups and three interceptions. For the season, the sophomore corner has posted 14 tackles and four interceptions and is tied for the state lead in that category.

American River CB Robert Sanders - The freshman has started off fast for the Beavers totaling 11 tackles, one tackle-for-loss and four interceptions including a five tackle effort in Saturday’s 19-10 win over San Joaquin Delta.

Merced S Devron Davis - Davis, a freshman, has been a consistent presence in the Blue Devils’ secondary, totaling 14 tackles and three interceptions including last week’s seven tackle, one fumble recovery and one interception tally in Merced’s 34-33 loss to Shasta. Davis returned his interception 30 yards for a late score in the game.

Santa Barbara CB Khaliel Ahmed Shegog - Shegog had a great game in the Vaqueros’ 45-13 win over East Los Angeles last weekend, totaling seven tackles (six solo), an interception and two pass breakups. For the season, the talented freshman has racked up 16 tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakups in three games.

Grossmont CB Maurice Carnell - The freshman helped the Griffs to a big 38-28 win over Riverside last weekend by posting six tackles (four solo), one interception and one pass breakup. For the season, Carnell has totaled 15 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, two pass breakups and two interceptions.

Ventura CB Michael Cirino - Cirino had five tackles, two pass breakups and one interception in Ventura’s 27-3 loss to Mt. San Antonio.

Pasadena CB Marlon Dobbins - Pasadena got a 19-7 win over L.A. Harbor and Dobbins had a big afternoon totaling one tackle and two interceptions.

Independence CB KeJuan Daniels - The freshman posted 12 tackles, two interceptions and a pass breakup in the Pirates 41-28 loss to Coffeyville last Saturday. Daniels currently ranks third on the team with 33 tackles to go along with three interceptions.

Northwest Mississippi S Treston Decoud - The redshirt sophomore didn’t record a tackle, but he did post two interceptions, returning one 29 yards for a touchdown, in Northwest Mississippi’s 45-31 win over Itawamba on Saturday.

Iowa Western CB Mondo Williams - Williams had three tackles and an interception in the Reivers’ 57-14 win over Dodge City on Saturday. So far this season, in four games, the talented sophomore with offers from several BCS programs, has posted 12 tackles and six interceptions which leads the nation.

Globe CB Tyrell Brown - Brown, a sophomore, had four tackles, a tackle-for-loss and two interceptions in Globe’s 35-6 loss to Dean. Brown has hauled in four interceptions and eight tackles in Globe’s first three games.

Pima S Markell Simmons - In four games this season, Simmons has posted 35 tackles, a forced fumble and four interceptions.
