Cain Talks Recruiting, Possible Visits

East Mississippi LB Demetrius Cain (6-1, 220) is now up to four offers and more could be on the way.

"I have offers right now from Southern Mississippi, Mississippi State, North Texas, Minnesota and Troy."

The talented sophomore has also been hearing from Kentucky as well as a few other programs, but is still waiting on firm offers.

"As far as my visits, I know for sure I will take one to Southern Miss and I know I will for sure take one to Troy. The rest are sorta up in the air right now," Cain noted.

Cain currently ranks second on the Lions' defense with 30 tackles. He also has four tackles for loss and three interceptions, one of which he took back for a touchdown.

"I play the nickel linebacker for us," Cain said. "I start every game because pretty much every team we play lines up in three wide most of the time.

"I'm really good in space. I'm a great open-field tackler and that has made me successful in my role."

One thing that has helped vault Cain to the top of a lot of recruiting radars is his work ethic. Evidenced by the work he put in during the offseason to help both himself as well as his team.

"This past summer, a couple of the big things I worked on were my speed and my strength," Cain said. "Because I'm a little undersized for a linebacker, I just needed to get stronger and faster so I worked on speed drills and I put in the time in the weight room.

"I'm at a 4.49 forty right now and I'm stronger than I've ever been and that's helped me a lot."

Cain graduated from Hazlehurst (Ms.) High School, but his grades prevented him from signing a scholarship with a four-year program.

"I chose East Mississipp because of the winning tradition here and because they do a good job of getting you ready to play at the next level," Cain said.

He is on pace to finish up his two year degree in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2014 football season.
