Decoud Sees Recruiting Pick Up

Northwest Mississippi CB Treston Decoud (6-3, 205) is having a great sophomore season and with his size, speed and athleticism, four-year schools have started to take notice...

Decoud enjoyed a solid prep career at Lakeshore (La.) High School and signed with Chadron State. When his mom got sick, he made the move to Nicholls State, but chose to enroll at Northwest Mississippi when his transfer didn't pan out.

"My mom got cancer and I needed to be closer to home, so I just started looking around and I liked the staff here (at Northwest Mississippi)," Decoud said. "I had bonded really well with the staff here and they promised me a fair opportunity to play and that's all I could ask for. It was really important to me to have a chance to play and they gave me that opportunity."

So far this season, in six games, the corner prospect has posted 22 tackles, a fumble recovery and a team-leading four interceptions.

"I'm at my best in man-to-man," Decoud said. "I'm good at jamming guys and then I have the ability to run with receivers and stay with them. I high-point the ball well too.

"This past offseason I really worked a lot on my footwork and conditioning. I wanted to be more explosive and that has helped me a lot."

On the recruiting front, things have begun to take off for the talented corner prospect as he's hauled in two early offers and more schools have been showing him a lot of interest.

"I have offers right now form Louisiana Lafayette and Utah State," Decoud said. "My coach has told me that Mississippi State, Iowa State, Kansas and Middle Tennessee have been asking about me a lot.

"I am possibly visiting Utah State when they play Wyoming and Lafayette in November, but those haven't been scheduled yet, so I'm still working on those."

Decoud is on pace to finish up his two-year degree in May and he will have two years to play two following the 2014 football season.
