El Camino LB Sees Recruiting Pick Up

El Camino LB Ralph Harvey Jr. (6-4, 225) had a solid sophomore season, leading the Warriors in tackles this season and he's seen recruiting pick up over the past few weeks as more schools are getting a look at his versatile playmaking abilities...

"I don't have any offers yet, but a lot of schools have been talking to me," Harvey Jr. told JCFootball.com recently. "I have talked with Eastern Michigan, Colorado, Utah, Miami, Wake Forest, Northern Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Buffalo, Memphis, Mississippi State, Old Dominion, Stony Brook and Northwestern State.

"Utah has probably been the most serious. They want me to come out on a visit and check out the school.

"All of them like me as an outside linebacker or as a stand up defensive end/pass rusher in a 3-4 scheme."

As a freshman in 2013, Harvey totaled 57 tackles, a sack, 5.5 tackles-for-loss and an interception while starting nine games for the Warriors.

He followed that up with an even better sophomore campaign that saw him lead El Camino in tackles with 71 while posting a sack, 4.5 tackles-for-loss, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.

"I played all three linebacker spots for us, but my main spot is weakside linebacker," Harvey Jr. noted. "I feel real comfortable outside because I'm good in space and I am pretty good in coverage and that helps me make plays."

Harvey enjoyed a solid prep career at Washington Prep (Los Angeles, Ca.) High School, but he went unnoticed during the recruiting process, so he opted to sign with El Camino and start working toward earning a scholarship to a four-year program.

"I knew I wasn't done and I liked the staff here and it was still pretty close to home," Harvey Jr. said. "I know I can play at the highest level. I just need to get the chance to show what I can do. I'm hopeful that someone gives me an opportunity because I definitely won't waste it."

Harvey Jr. was a full-qualifier out of high school, so he's got the academic chops to get it done in the classroom at the next level and he can sign at any time. He plans to take some visits and hopes to sign with a school in December and he will have three years to play two starting in 2015.
