Thompson's Versatility Makes Him Special

Highland DL Darnell Thompson (6-4, 275) had a solid sophomore season playing three of the four spots along the highland defensive line. The talented prospect currently holds offers from six programs and he told recently that he's hoping to take all five of his official visits before he decides where he will continue his college football career...

"I have offers from Appalachian State, Ohio, UAB, Western Kentucky and Southern Mississippi and I've been getting interest from a few other schools," Thompson told "Purdue and North Carolina State have both been talking to me a lot.

"I actually took unofficial visits to Appalachian State and North Carolina State over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend because I was back home in Raleigh (NC) and I'm hoping to get an offer from (N.C. State), so we'll see on that one."

Thompson took a visit to Ohio this past weekend and he said he is planning to set up visits with Purdue and Southern Miss for sometime in January.

As a prep, Thompson signed with a D-2 program, but he tore the labrum in his right shoulder during his freshman season and decided to leave to get healthy and give himself a chance to play at the highest level he could.

"Highland was a good fit and they seemed like a program that was on the rise," Thompson said. "I got a redshirt for my freshman year, so this was really my first year of playing college football."

As a freshman this season, Thompson played both defensive end spots as well as defensive tackle for the Scotties front four and he finished the season with close to 20 tackles and three sacks.

"I can stop the run or rush the quarterback, whatever my team needs from me, so I feel like I can do it all," Thompson said.

Thompson is on pace to finish up his academic work in May and he will have three years to play three starting in the fall of 2015.
