Top ' 16 JUCO WR Talks About Early Decision

Hinds WR Marquez McNair (6-1, 175) is widely regarded as one of the top JUCO wideouts in the country for the 2016 class and he will likely have many suitors come calling this spring and summer, but after thinking about his situation, he decided to commit to Southern Miss, a school that has stuck by him since high school...

"I committed to (Southern Mississippi) today and they were happy because they said I was the top junior college guy on their board," McNair told shortly after making his decision. "The coaches there stuck by me. They were recruiting me in high school and when I couldn't qualify, they still stuck by me and kept in contact with me during my first year here (at Hinds)."

McNair chose the Golden Eagles over offers from TCU, East Carolina and Middle Tennessee State and he was getting a lot of early attention from the likes of Tennessee and Kentucky.

As a freshman this past season, the talented freshman led the Eagles with 30 receptions for 433 yards and four touchdowns playing out of the slot, but a move to the outside is in the works this fall.

"We run a lot of zone read stuff, so we don't throw it much, but I am more of a down-the-field guy," McNair said. "I played mostly out of the slot and we ran a lot of wheel (routes) and other stuff to get the ball to me to down the field.

"I'm moving outside this year, so I really want to work more on going up and getting the ball on jump balls.

"This is also only my second season of playing receiver, I played quarterback in high school, so I just need to work on perfecting my routes and stuff like that too."

McNair is on pace to finish up his two-year degree this coming December and he will have three years to play two starting in the fall of 2016.
