Still Available: Riverside WR Jermel Walker

2015 Riverside WR Jermel Walker (6-1, 175) talks about where things currently stand on the recruiting front...

"Right now, I have offers from Rhode Island and Weber State, but those were schools that had offered me before Christmas," Walker told JCFootball.com. "I was talking a little with Boise State and and Bowling Green before Signing Day (February 4th), but I haven't talked to them much since then."

As a prep, Walker was a standout for Rancho Cucamonga (Ca.) High School and he committed to play for Oregon State, but once he realized he wouldn't be able to qualify he began looking at which options were available to him.

"I had planned to go to Arizona Western, but then I decided to come here to RCC (Riverside)," Walker noted.

As a freshman for the Tigers, Walker worked into a rotation that featured the likes of Kenny Torrence, Devon Blackmon and Sam Boyd, all of whom signed with four-year schools after the 2013 season, but he still managed to haul in 10 receptions for 164 yards and three scores.

This past fall, while playing opposite USC-bound Isaac Whitney, Walker grabbed 14 receptions for 247 yards and three more scores.

"I'm more of a downfield guy," Walker said. "I like to take the top off of the defense and I can get deep and I have good speed.

"One thing I have been working on a lot is my strength and how I use my hands. That will really help me in the future as a receiver."

Walker is on pace to finish up his two-year degree in May and he will have three years to play two starting this coming fall wherever he winds up.
