Brinson Is Becoming A Popular Player
"I just got an offer from Colorado State and I already had the offer from Texas State, so I am at two right now," Brinson told JCFootball.com over the weekend. "I've talked to a bunch of schools, but California, Colorado, Arizona State and Oregon State have all been in regular contact with me."
As a redshirt freshman last season, Brinson started four games while working his way into the Comets' talented secondary, finishing with 14 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, an interception and a team-leading nine pass breakups.
"I can play man-to-man press all game as well as off-man. That is definitely one of my top strengths - I shadow the best receiver all game," Brinson noted. "I don't just stay on one side of the field, which I feel separates me from a lot of other corners, my coaches give me the challenge and I want that challenge."
This offseason, Brinson hasn't focused on one area of his game. He's working to perfect everything.
"It doesn't matter if I think it needs work or not, I'm working on things every day," Brinson said. "Every offseason I try to perfect my game as a whole."
Brinson enjoyed a solid prep career at Boca Ciega High School in St.Petersburg/Gulfport, Florida and he signed with Youngstown State where he enrolled the following summer, but he wasn't happy there, so he left after redshirting in 2013.
"I was looking for another oppurtunity to play," Brinson recalled. "I had a D-2 oppurtunity as well as another divison one oppurtunity, but I would have had to sit out at the D-1 so that led me to go the JUCO route.
"I didn't know much about the JC system at the time and I had a couple former teammates from high school that were having success at Contra Costa so that's the route I took."
Brinson will finish up his two-year degree this December and he will have two years to play two following the 2015 football season.
