"I have one offer right now -- Illinois," Whitner told "Appalachian State and Georgia Southern are the other schools that have been talking me and I am going to go to the Florida State camp in July too."

While starting every game as a freshman last season for Eastern Arizona, Whitner held things down on his side, totaling 22 tackles, one interception and 12 pass breakups.

"I feel like I am a complete corner," Whitner said. "I am working really hard on my speed. I want to get it down to a 4.3 by the fall to improve my stock, but I can do whatever a team needs to me to do (press or off coverage) in order to help us win and be successful."

As a prep at Morrow (Ga.) High School, Whitner's talents and abilities were on display, however, he was unable to qualify for a scholarship to a four-year school, so he opted to go the JUCO route and he found Eastern Arizona as the one option presented to him.

"I got a call from the defensive coordinator saying that they wanted me," Whitner recalled. "I was a non-qualifier out of high school so it was my only option."

While he might have struggled with his academics as a prep, that hasn't been the case at the JUCO level as Whitner has maintained a 3.7 GPA since enrolling there last fall.

He is currently on pace to finish up his two-year degree in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2015 football season.
