"This fall, I'll be on the left side," Matthews told "The first day of spring ball I was all set to handle the right side where I played as a freshman, but my coach said I was going to play left tackle, so that's where I'm headed.

"He said they believe I can protect the blind side the best.

"I'd never played on the left side before, so that was a little adjustment, but I think I am best as a run-blocker right now. It's just always been easy for me to move guys and get pancakes."

Ever since finishing the 2014 season, where he helped the Hornets to an 8-3 record, Matthews has been hard at work trying to improve his pass-blocking skill as well.

"I definitely want to improve my pass-blocking technique," Matthews noted. "I have been doing footwork drills, working hard on my pass sets and my positioning and how I use my hands too.

"I just want to improve everything so that I can be ready to handle anything that the defense throws at me when I am out there."

Currently, Matthews has one offer and he's been talking to a handful of other programs who seem to like what they have seen so far from the big, athletic tackle prospect.

"Right now, Iowa State is my only offer," Matthews said. "They offered a little while ago and I have also been hearing from UNLV, Arizona State, Baylor, Cincinnati and Louisville. They all want to see how my spring grades turn out and they wanted to see some of my game film from this fall just to see how I have progressed."

The Forestville, Maryland native is on pace to finish up his two-year degree next May and he will have three years to play two following the 2015 football season.
