California Week 1 Predictions

The Swami has returned for another season of prognosticating at the JC level. I'm going to look at all of the games in California for the first week. Here's my predictions for the first week.

San Jose 34, De Anza 13

Raymond Murphy runs all over the Dons, just as he did to most of his opponents last season.

San Mateo 38, Diablo Valley 21

San Mateo's new "Georgia Southern" style misdirection offense gives the Vikings a fit.  Jason Douglas runs the show.

CCSF 70, Semi-Pro Team 7

Come On!  This is the JC football equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters vs. the Washington Generals.  The Semi-Pro team may score late against CCSF's 4th string defense.

Shasta 27, Mendocino 21

This is a close one, but I think Shasta has a bit more talent.

Butte 30, West Hills 20

Chris Bruhn for Butte and Rayvon Johnson for West Hills should make for two great running games.  Although Butte is young, they have more talent across the board.

Sierra 38, Delta 20

The Wolverines start things in style by roughing up a Mustang team with a balanced offense.

Hartnell 27, Yuba 10

A great group of athletes at Hartnell gives a young Yuba team a tough time.

Pasadena 38, Glendale 17

Pasadena's offense will come firing out of the gate.  Might get over 400 yards of offense.

Southwestern 20, L.A. Southwest 13

Two good defenses, but Southwestern has more athletes on both sides of the ball.

Mt. San Jacinto 17, West L.A. 10

Two pretty average teams, but someone has to win.  Brett Johnson makes the difference.

Compton 34, Golden West 14

Compton has some of the best athletes in JC football.  They will have to find a way to lose this game against a Golden West team that hasn't won a game for several years.

Canyons 31, Santa Ana 21

This should be a great game!  Both teams have a ton of great athletes.  I like Canyons led by the arm of Jason Winn and his supporting cast.

Palomar 27, Moorpark 24

Another great game, and a Moorpark win would not surprise me.  However, I think Palomar will have put a lot together since getting embarassed in their scrimmage.

Grossmont 30, Citrus 21

The Griffins have a couple of bounce backs who, combined with the returning players, will make for a strong Grossmont squad.

Redwoods 38, Marin 14

This one shouldn't be close.  The Corsairs are loaded and Marin is among the state's weaker teams.

Chaffey 24, Mt SAC 17

It will be close, but I think the Panthers may be the team to watch in SoCal.  Great game to see.

Fullerton 34, Santa Barbara 18

I think SBCC will be better, but they'll have a rough go with a very talented Hornet squad.

Reedley 31, Antelope Valley 20

I think this will be a great game but the Tigers should come out on top.  Watch for the Reedley offense to move the ball very well.

Siskiyous 27, American River 13

I think this will be the start of a long year for ARC.  Siskiyous returns some key talent.

Sacramento 38, Sequoias 10

This shouldn't be close with a Panther team that is loaded on both sides of the ball.

Santa Rosa 24, Foothill 13

Foothill's young offense will have a tough time with Santa Rosa's defense.  Santa Rosa should be able to move the ball pretty well.

Contra Costa 27, Los Medanos 17

Close game, but Lionel Arnold makes the difference.  Los Medanos needs to establish a QB.

West Valley 24, Chabot 21

Close game, but I like West Valley's chances with a great group of returning talent of offense.

Fresno 37, Laney 13

This shouldn't be close.  Fresno City is going to be among the state's best this season.  Its been a while since Laney has had much success.

Merced 20, Gavilan 14

Two teams that have struggled lately.  I like Merced and their returning QB Willie Steversen.

Modesto 34, Cabrillo 20

Modesto is tough at home and have a lot of experience.  Watch for Cabrillo tailback Kani Walker.

Allan Hancock 20, El Camino 17

This is a close one.  Hancock is tough to beat at home.  This game will be up in the air until the 4th quarter.

Saddleback 24, Ventura 18

Another close one, but I think Saddleback QB Jason Whieldon will lead the Gauchos to a win.  Plus, Saddleback is tough on defense.

Victor Valley 34, L.A. Pierce 20

Victor Valley finally gets over the hump!!!  Its the start of a long year for Pierce.

L.A. Valley 31, Long Beach 21

The Monarchs return to glory as Zac Wasserman and his supporting cast move the ball all over the field.  Long Beach will be able to move the ball as well with Baughman and Bingham.

Cerritos 20, Bakersfield 13

I know BC fans don't want to hear this, but BC's young offense will have a tough time with Cerritos' defense.  Should be one of the night's best games!

Santa Monica 34, Desert 10

The Corsairs should start the year in impressive fashion.  COD has a way to go.

San Diego Mesa 21, L.A. Harbor 17

Close game, but I give the edge to a Mesa team that returns a ton of players from last season.

Orange Coast 30, East L.A. 14

The Pirates will be among the best in the South.  Watch for OCC QB Nick Higgs to lead a talented offense.

Riverside 28, San Bernardino 20

It will be closer than most think, but I think RCC has the talent and expereince to win it.

Well...What do YOU think?
