"I committed (to Colorado) when I was on my visit there last weekend," a happy Trego said shortly after his commitment became public. "The coaches' eyes just lit up. They were really happy and excited to get me there."
Trego chose the Buffaloes over offers from Eastern Michigan and the University of San Diego and he said it was an easy choice.
"A big thing was because it's in the Pac 12 and the coaches and people there are just great," Trego noted. "They play against top competition every week and I think they are building something good there.
"It's also an amazing location."
Shortly after returning home, Trego signed his letter to make things official.
"I will enroll there on May 31st," Trego said. "I can't wait to get there."
As a freshman this past season, while manning the strong safety spot in the Diablo Valley secondary, Trego totaled 50 tackles to go along with half a sack, 10 tackles-for-loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and a team-leading four interceptions and three blocked kicks.
Trego was a qualifier after graduating from Liberty High School and Brentwood, California, so he was eligible to leave right away instead of playing a second year for DVC.
He will have four years to play three starting this fall.
