2016 Northwest Mississippi QB Gardner Minshew commits to ECU on his official visit this past weekend

2016 Northwest Mississippi QB Gardner Minshew (6-2, 215) took an official visit to check out East Carolina over the weekend and decided he'd seen enough and will play for the Pirates this fall...

Minshew announced his decision to commit to ECU on Sunday.

"It's just a great school with so much fan support and a coaching staff that is dedicated to doing it the right way," a happy Minshew told JCFootball.com on Monday. "They said (the quarterback competition) will be an open competition with the senior they have returning."

Minshew chose ECU over an offer from Buffalo and several FCS programs.

As a freshman last season, Minshew helped lead the Rangers to the NJCAA National Championship by completing nearly 61% of his passes for 3,288 yards with 28 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

Minshew expects to finish up his academic work this spring and enroll at ECU on May 17th.

He will have four years to play three starting this fall.
