California Week Two Predictions

After going 25-10 in week one, The Swami once again does his best to predict the scores of week two. Some great match-ups once again this week as the Southern California Conferences continue their cross-over games. NorCal has some great ones as well.

This Week's Predictions

CCSF  42 West Valley  7

After last week's shutout loss to Chabot, its tough to imagine West Valley doing much more on offense against CCSF's defense.  We'll see what the CCSF Rams are really like after last week's dabacle against a semi-pro team.

Fresno  38    Siskiyous  20

It was a rough week for Fresno with the loss of a player, but I think the Rams will steamroll on offense.
Shasta 31   Reedley 27

The one-two tandem of tailbacks Oscar Rigg and DaMarcus Ingram for Shasta will be tough to stop.  Reedley may be down after a big loss to Antelope Valley.  However, I expect a close game

Butte 42   American River 24

Butte is expected to get back two offensive linemen who missed their season opening loss to West Hills.  These guys could make all the difference for Chris Bruhn.  ARC has a nice win in week one, but I think Butte is hungry.

Redwoods 41   Sierra 27

It is now apparent that Sierra is loaded on offense, but the defense is thin.  Redwoods should be able to move the ball pretty easily on offense and play good defense, but they don't have Delta's passing game.  Lower scoring than last week.

San Mateo @ Santa Rosa

San Jose 49  Marin 20

Reymon Murphy should have a field day.  SJCC will go to 2-0.  Marin had a tough time with Redwoods in week one.

Yuba  37   DeAnza  17

Yuba surprised a lot of people in week one with their win over Hartnell.  De Anza had a rough go with San Jose.  Thus, I like Yuba to move to 2-0.

Delta 41   Monterey Peninsula 28

We haven't seen MPC yet, but unless head coach Mike Rasmussen did some great late recruiting, MPC should have some trouble this year.  However, tailback Antowan Vaughns and receiver Maurice Mann are very talented.  Delta's offense ripped Sierra's defense last week.  Nice start for Delta's freshman QB Dan Taylor.

Allan Hancock 31    Long Beach 27

The Bulldogs proved they were for real with a big win over El Camino last week.  Long Beach may be back on track after a couple of down seasons after a big win over a talented LA Valley team.  Could go either way, but I like the Bulldogs' balanced offense and pressure defense.

Fullerton  31   West L.A. 13

I think Fullerton will be improved since their win over Santa Barbara. West L.A. had a nice win over Mt. San Jacinto, but still have something to prove against a tough Mission Conference team.

Orange Coast  37   L.A. Harbor  20

The Pirates are a solid team and should be improved from last week's narrow win over East L.A.  L.A. Harbor put up a good fight against San Diego Mesa, but the Pirates are going to be a tougher opponent.

Pasadena  42   East L.A.  17

East L.A. is an up and coming program and played Orange Coast close, but Pasadena is one of Southern California's most talented teams.  The Lancers should move on to 2-0.

Mt. San Antonio   41  Ventura  20

The Mounties offense was on fire against Chaffey, but their defense had a rough day.  However, I think the Mounties will put it together against a Ventura team that lost big to Saddleback.

Victor Valley  27    Compton  20

This is a tough call.  It could go either way.  I like Victor Valley to continue to put up a strong effort, but Compton will be a big step up from Pierce.

Riverside 42   Mt. San Jacinto   19

Riverside is for real.  Great team.  Mt. San Jacinto's loss to West L.A. gives me concerns.

Saddleback  35   Grossmont 31

Another great game.  I think Saddleback QB Jason Whieldon will put together a great offensive performance for the Gauchos.  Grossmont will move the ball against Saddleback's secondary.  This is up for grabs!

Chaffey 45   Citrus  24

The Panther offensive machine keeps rolling through week two.  The Panthers should be able to do some things better on defense this week.

Palomar  34   Southwestern  24

Two great teams, but I think the Comets are a little more talented.  Watch for the Jaguars of SWC to put up a great battle though.

Sacramento  77  Semi Pro Team   6

It might not be this close, if this is the same semi-pro team that CCSF played.  Another joke on the schedule.

Mendocino 31  Los Medanos  21

Close game, but I expect Mendocino to rebound from their week one close loss to Shasta.

Conta Costa 35   Diablo Valley   24

I expect an offense dominated game.  Tailback Lionel Arnold from Contra Costa should make the difference for CCC.

Chabot 34  Merced  17

The Gladiators shut down West Valley's offense.  Merced should be able to move the ball with QB Willie Steverson and TB Alvin Thornton.  Chabot should move to 2-0.

Sequoias 24  Foothill  20

This is my "upset" pick of the week.  Sequoias played Sacramento tough in their loss.  Foothill had a great game with Santa Rosa.  Could go either way, but I like COS to pull it off.

Cabrillo  21   Gavilan  17

People may think I'm nuts predicting Cabrillo to win after losing 55-0 to Modesto.  However, I just have a hunch.  I think that tailback Kani Walker and quarterback Matt Crivello of San Luis Obispo High School will put a few things together.  Gavilan could put it together.

Modesto 42    Hartnell  14

The injury to Hartnell QB Mike Souza will seriously hamper the Panthers' offense for the next few weeks.  Modesto is on fire after a huge win over Cabrillo.

West Hills @ Bakersfield

Antelope Valley   24   Santa Barbara   7

Antelope Valley is putting it together, coming off a big win over Reedley.  The Santa Barbara offense has a long way to go.

Cerritos @ Canyons

Santa Ana 34    Moorpark  21

Moorpark had a tough time with Palomar.  I think the Raiders will have more success moving the ball than Canyons did, but it might not be enough.  Santa Ana is hot, playing with 17 returning starters.

El Camino  48  Santa Monica   17

I have great concern for Santa Monica after losing to Deset in their opener.  Don't be fooled by El Camino's 0-1 record.  They are the real deal!  Their front seven is scary.

San Bernardino Valley  35  Glendale    28

This should be close, but I think SBVC's athletic team will put it together against a Glendale team that struggled against Pasadena.

Desert  34   LA Pierce  14

Its going to be a long year for Pierce.  Desert receiver Mario Guardado is among the Foothill Conference's best.  Big win for the Roadrunners over Santa Monica.

LA Valley  31  Golden West  27

I still believe that L.A. Valley is a sleeping giant, despite getting whipped by Long Beach.  Let's give them one more try.

LA Southwest   18    SD Mesa   13

This is a tough call.  I like veteran coach Henry Washington's tough defense to win the game for the Cougars.
