Holton announced his decision over the weekend on his Twitter account.
"When I went on the visit I just felt like I was back at home at it was just a great fit for me.
"The (ECU) coaches were surprised and super-excited."
As a freshman last season, Holton started all but two games for GMC, posting a team-high eight pass breakups while racking up 18 tackles and two interceptions.
He is on pace to finish up his two-year degree in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2016 football season.
