Fortenberry Continues To Show Patience

2017 CCSF DB Deante Fortenberry (5-11, 195) has had a productive offseason, garnering offers from five schools and more could be on the way...

"I'm still at five offers," Fortenberry told "I have offers from BaylorIowa StateHawaiiColorado State and Western Kentucky and I have been talking to USC and Oregon State quite a bit, but they haven't offered just yet.

"As far as visits, Baylor and Colorado State are the two that are pushing me to set up a visit, but so far, we haven't worked out a date for those yet, so I don't have any visits scheduled just yet."

As a freshman last season, Fortenberry led the Rams with seven interceptions and 20 pass breakups while also posting 48 tackles.

"I can play whatever you need me to play, but mostly, I played on the left side or I followed the top receiver on the opposing team around," Fortenberry said. "I feel like I can do it all. Whether that means playing zone or man-to-man, I just love to get out and compete and to match up and just go play ball."

As a prep at Pittsburgh (Ca.) High School, Fortenberry wasn't recruited very hard because he wasn't able to qualify, but his father had a friend whose son played at CCSF and he felt it would be the right place for him.

"It was a match made in heaven for me," Fortenberry said. "The daily competition in practice is great and the coaching here is the best in the nation in my mind, so they are really help get us ready for the next level."

Fortenberry is working hard to get his two-year degree finished up by December and he will have three years to play two following the 2016 football season.
