On the night, Gilbert was 11 of 22 for 204
yards and 3 TDs. Crenshaw
had just 3 catches but they totalled 105 yards and included 2 TDs.
Marshall's 70 yards rushing combined with 36 yards on 2 catches
and 86 yards on 2 kickoff returns put him over the 200-yard mark on the
evening. Cabot Denny
finished with a game-high 81 yards to lead the El Camino rushing attack.
Overall the Warriors rushed for 230 yards on the evening.
The El Camino defense was outstanding as well,
holding Santa Monica to 200 yards on total offense and not allowing a
play of over 13 yards or a touchdown until the outcome of the game was
no longer in doubt. Santa
Monica's initial first down of the second half didn't occur until
the score was 39-3.
In the first quarter, the teams exchanged field goals. First El Camino's Casey Gardener connected from 21 yards out. Then on the ensuing kickoff, Santa Monica's Ariel Zeledon took the ball 3 yards deep in the end zone and ran it all the way to the El Camino 14 before he was caught from behind. The Corsairs settled for a 30-yard field goal by Jay Mandler to tie the score 3-3.
The El Camino took over.
Their next possession culminated in a 15-yard run by RB Alvin
Marshall, who would finish the night with over 200 total yards and 2 TDs.
That made it 10-3. Then on the first Warrior possession of the second quarter,
Gilbert combined with WR
Joseph Crenshaw on a 46-yard pass to make it 17-3.
Santa Monica's last apparent chance for a comeback happened on the second half kickoff. The kick went to Deshon Harris, who fumbled with Santa Monica recovering the ball. But the play was called back on a Corsair penalty. On the re-kick, Marshall fielded the ball and returned it 63 yards. A few plays later Bennie Bishop caught a 5-yard TD pass from Gilbert to make it 24-3. Less than 3 minutes after that Gilbert combined with Crenshaw for a 33-yard touchdown pass. Jovonnie Mabrie scored the 2-point conversion on a trick play, a variation of the old swinging gate, to make it 32-3.
