Fischer sets rushing record as Santa Ana College thrashes Moorpark
Brandon Fischer (El Dorado H.S.) ran for a school-record 308 yards on 37 carries to lead Santa Ana College to a 40-28 win over Moorpark College on Saturday night in Moorpark. The win also marks the first time that the Dons have started the season 2-0 since 1990 when they defeated San Diego Mesa College and Mt. San Antonio College to start the season.
Fisher's performance broke a four-year-old record set by Tramel Robinson (288 yards vs. Riverside) in 1997. He now has 445 yards rushing and five touchdowns in two games for the Dons.
All-America candidate linebacker Chad Kalilimoku (Roosevelt H.S.,HI) led a stingy defense with six unassisted tackles and one fumble recovery. Darnell Smith (San Marcos H.S.) had two interceptions to lead the Dons' secondary.
Santa Ana has now outscored its opponents 67-31 on the season—including 33-3 in the fourth quarter. The Dons are averaging 251yards per game on the ground which is good enough for second-best (Palomar 273.0) in the Mission Conference.
Santa Ana now travels to Mt. San Antonio College to meet the Mounties on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. Mt. San Antonio has crushed the Dons the past two years by a total aggregate score of 112-44. With a win, it would be Santa Ana's best start since 1989.
