SCC BEATS SAN JOSE RAIDERS IN EXHIBITION GAME

Sacramento, CA- After being destroyed 96-0 at the hands of City College of San Francisco, the San Jose Raiders- a semi-pro club, didn't shy out at facing another top ranked community college team a week later. Instead, the Raiders showed up at Hughes Stadium Saturday, and took another beating, this time at the hands of the Panthers, who were victorious in a 63-0 shutout.

From start to finish, SCC clearly dominated the club team. The Panthers received the opening kickoff and ended their drive on a 3-yard run by Terrence Lee, the first of two touchdowns on the day for the freshmen. Sac City went on to score two more times in the first quarter. With 5:49 left, Maia Tupou pounded up the middle for a 2-yard score. With 1:19 left in the quarter, following an interception by defensive back, Waleed Gaines, his first on the year, Lee scored his second touchdown of the game with another 3-yard run.

Less than two minutes into the second quarter, SCC struck again, this time as Lamar Lee found wide-out Kevin Swanigan open over the middle and connected for a 30-yard touchdown pass. On their next possession, the Panthers added another seven points to their lead. L. Lee connected with wide receiver Phil Goodman, who had a defensive back hanging all over him, for a 36-yard touchdown. Sac City went into halftime with a 35-0 lead.

In the first half, the culmination of the Raiders ineffective offense and Sac City's swarming defense prevented them from moving the ball pass the 50-yard line, and forced punt after punt to SCC.

After receiving the opening kick-off of the second half and another 3-and-out drive, the Raiders were again forced to punt the ball to SCC. Again, the Panthers capitalized. With 9:55 on the clock, Keith Shankle scored on a 3-yard run. On the Raiders next offensive possession, their quarterback was intercepted, as he was about to be sacked in his end zone, by linebacker Brandon Reiger. On the very next play, Antoine Carter scored on a 3-yard run (9:02). With 2:58 left in the quarter, Shankle scored his second touchdown of the game, as he broke through several tackles at mid-field and sprinted 47-yards to the end zone. SCC defensive linemen Tyler Johnson sacked the Raiders quarterback with 1:37 left in the quarter to give Sac City a 55-0 lead at the end of three-quarters.

In the fourth, quarter LaQuan Moore picked-off, the Raiders quarterback to set SCC up for their final score of the game. With 2:10 left in the quarter, Jarl Johnson recorded his first touchdown of the season, with a 5-yard run up the middle.

Sac City is currently ranked 3rd in the north, 8th in the state and 12th in the nation. SCC is 2-0 on the year and will host Foothill College at "the shoe" this Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
