Holmes Finds Win Column

FULTON --- Freshman quarterback Shelton Richardson passed for four touchdowns here Thursday night to lead Holmes Community College (1-2) to a 28-17 North Division win over Itawamba Community College (0-3).

Richardson, who finished the night 18-of-34 with 237 yards, helped the Bulldogs pick up their first win of the year. The Bulldogs went to 1-2 on the year while the Indians went to 0-3.

The Bulldogs got on the board early in the first quarter as Richardson found Reginald Haralson in the end zone from nine yards out. Matt Jones' kick made the score 7-0 with 8:12 left in the first quarter.

Itawamba answered the touchdown late in the first quarter when Chourse Young scored from four yards out. Rob Miller added Itawamba's extra point to tie the game at seven.

Richardson then hooked up with Haralson again in the second quarter, this time from 27 yards out. Jones' extra point made the score 14-7 with 11:54 left in the first half.

The Indians answered the Holmes score with 8:09 left in the first half when Andy Jones found Jermaine Dawson on a 20-yard touchdown pass. Miller's kick tied the game at 14.

Less than two minutes after that the Bulldogs scored again. This time Richardson found Brian Thomas in the end zone from 17 yards out. Jones' kick with 6:47 put the Bulldogs up for good at 21-14.

The Indians added their field goal with 13:59 left in the game as Miller connected from 24 yards out.

The Bulldogs tacked on a late touchdown when Richardson found Wayne Blaylock in the left corner of the end zone from four yards out. Jones' kick with 2:01 left sealed the game at 28-17.

The Bulldogs are on the road Thursday at East Central. They will then return home on October 6 in a Homecoming contest against Mississippi Delta.
