Four-Year Schools Are Coming After Hines

With two offers to his name and more schools eyeing his talents, 2018 Southwest Mississippi DE John Hines (6-4, 225) is a JUCO prospect starting to gain momentum this spring...

"I have offers right now from Texas-San Antonio and Southern Mississippi and Maryland and Troy have both been talking to me a lot," Hines told in a recent interview. "So far that's it, but hopefully this spring more schools come out and see me and what I can do."

What Hines can do is consistently be around the football and get after the quarterback, evidenced by his 56 tackles, three sacks, five tackles-for-loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

"I'm a good pass-rusher," Hines noted. "I can stand up or put my hand in the ground as a defensive end. I also don't lose contain, that is big in our defense, and I run to the ball and try to make plays."

This offseason, Hines admitted he's working at getting better against the run, perfecting more pass-rushing moves and getting bigger and stronger.

Hines enjoyed a solid prep career at Park Crossing (Montgomery, Al.), but was unable to get qualified, so he chose to go the JUCO route to get his academics in order while continuing to play the game he loves.

"I liked the staff here and felt like it was the right place for me," Hines said. "There's lots of great talent here and I felt like it had the perfect mix of academics and football."

Hines is set to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2017 football season.
