It was truly a team effort for the Renegades. Seven different players scored touchdowns, and even the kickers shared the duty of kicking the extra points. RB Robert Thomas ran for 142 yards and a TD on just 12 carries. SS James McGill forced one fumble and returned another for a TD. The offense piled up over 400 total yards on the day and did not commit a turnover, with the 2 quarterbacks, Kevin Bryan and Dennis Dubois, combining for 134 yards. Each threw for and ran for a TD.
Things started well enough for Moorpark.
The Raiders took the opening kickoff and drove to the Bakersfield
13 behind the strong running of Joey Casillas.
The drive consumed over 8 minutes and set up a 30-yard field goal
by Christian Thomesen. That
gave Moorpark a 3-0 lead, which they held through the end of the first
But the second quarter was completely different.
Things started going Bakersfield's way when McGill hit Moorpark
QB Mike Jasper from behind, causing a fumble.
DT Saxton Zachary recovered at the Raider 5, and on the
Renegades' next play Kevin Bryan ran it in to give Bakersfield a 7-0
lead. After 3 plays and a
punt by Moorpark, Bakersfield got the ball back at their own 38.
On the next play, Thomas ran through the line and didn't stop
until he crossed the goal line 62 yards later.
Dennis Dubois 11-yard run about 3 minutes later made it 21-3 and
his 41-yard pass to WR Sammy Moore with just over a minute left in the
half made it 28-3. Then
Moorpark's 2nd QB Barry Tolli fumbled, and Bakersfield's
Randy Jordan recovered and returned it 24 yards.
And with 3 seconds left in the half, Bryan threw a 10-yard pass
to TE Russell Handy to make it 35-3 Bakersfield at intermission.
Any thoughts Moorpark might have had regarding a comeback were erased early in the 3rd quarter when McGill recovered a Casillas fumble and raced 17 yards for the Renegades' 6th TD of the day, making the score 42-3. Reserve RB David McCrary scored the final TD of the day from 6 yards out early in the 4th quarter.

Notes: Bakersfield entered 0-1, ranked #8 in South (lost to Cerritos 9/8). Moorpark entered 0-2. The game turned early in the second when McGill sacked Jasper, causing a fumble, which Zachary recovered. The next play was BC's 1st TD. Then after a 3 & out + punt, BC's 1st play from scrimmage was Thomas' TD run. BC's 5th TD of the qtr followed another fumble, this one by Tolli, which was rec. by Jordan and ret. deep into Raider territory. Bryan started at QB for Bak with Dubois making his 1st appearance in 2nd qtr. They alternated, without an apparent pattern, thereafter. For Moorpark, Jasper started and played most of the 1st & 3rd quarters with Tolli playing most of the 2nd & 4th quarters.
