"I've decided to sign with Florida International," Young told JCFootball.com shortly after he committed. "I just fell in love with the campus. It's in a beautiful part of Miami, I really like the location and the staff there and I like the direction of the program and I am ready to get down there and be part of getting some wins."
"The coaches were really excited to get me there," Young said. "Coach (Butch) Davis is a great coach and the staff there said they were bringing me in for kickoffs and field goals and they're going to let me compete for the punting job.
"I love doing both and I love to compete. They already have a pretty good punter there, but I love to compete and that's what I am going there intending to do."
After a solid prep career at Admiral Farragut in Tampa (Fl.), Young decided to head to UCF as a preferred walk-on, but when he showed up, things changed from when he was recruiting to the reality of the situation when he arrived.
"The day I signed up for classed the coach that told me to walk on and I'd have a spot on the team left the school was let go," Young noted. "I also had some stuff happen at home that took my focus away. So I reached out to ASA for a fresh start and it was the best decision I've ever made."
Young has already completed his academic work for the year and he is set to enroll at FIU on June 15th.
He will have three years to play three starting this fall.
