Weekly Top Performances (9-23-03)

This is our weekly look at top performers from the past weekend. Fullerton LB John Morris (6-2, 245; pictured at left), is a Fresno St. bounceback who had 9 tackles, a fumble recovery, and a sack in a narrow loss to Palomar. He is among the best LBs we've seen in person this year. While we're on bouncebacks ... Cerritos DT Vince Fuela (6-1, 290), a U. Arizona transfer, had 8 tackles - 3 for losses - and 4 QB hurries vs. Riverside.

QUARTERBACKS

BLINN – Dane King, 6-2, 205, hit on 21 of 31 for 402 yards and 6 TDs in 69-7 crushing of Ranger. He was named the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week.

COFFEYVILLE – Adam Fisher, 6-2, 210, was 14 of 24 for 327 yards in 58-9 victory over Hutchinson

GRAND RAPIDS – Freshman Jeremy Landstra, 6-1, 215, was 12 for 18 for 310 yards in 38-7 win over DuPage.       

CISCO – Nick Smith, set conference record with 33 completions and 54 attempts in loss to Blinn.  He gained 300 yards.      

PEARL RIVER – Anthony Johnson, 6-2, 210, was 18 of 32 for 292 yards and 4 TDs vs. East Central.       

L.A. SOUTHWEST – Chazley Foster, 6-2, 230, went 17 of 22 for 243 and a pair of tallies in 26-12 win over Glendale.

SADDLEBACK – Frosh Dan Tomcheck, 6-2, 200, making his first start for injured Brock Farrel, was 22-30-213-2.

RUNNING BACKS

N.E. OKLAHOMA – Charles Elix, 6-0, 195, piled up 229 yards on 27 carries and scored on runs of 40, 46 and 54 yards in NEO's 31-21 win over Trinity Valley              

DIABLO VALLEY – Robert Hubbard, 5-10, 190, carried 40 times for 227 and 4 TDs, in 44-29 win over Chabot                 

BUTLER COUNTY –  Joseph Harris, 5-9, 215, had 28 carries for 221 yards, in 34-24 victory over Garden City

LOS MEDANOS – Jabbar Graham, 5-7, 190, 18 for 192 and 2 scores, to gain 31-0 win over Mendocino

EAST MISSISSIPPI – John Henderson, 5-9, 191, 21 carries for 183 yards and 2 scores, in 44-17 win over Northeast.

HUDSON VALLEY – Emmanuel Marc, 5-11, 192, set a school record with 44 carries good for 182 yards in loss to Morrisville.

SAN JOAQUIN DELTA – Brandon Harper, 5-8, 178, 19 for 175 and a TD, in 68-23 win over Monterey Peninsula.

FORT SCOTT – Ricky Smith, 6-2, 225, 22 carries for 174 yards and TDs of 3 and 63, in 54-20 win over Independence.

GARDEN CITY – Andre Hall, 5-10, 205, hammered out 167 yards on 25 carries in loss to Butler County.

MT. SAN ANTONIO – Cazmir Hill, a former Pasadena athlete, ripped off 164 yards and a TD vs. old teammates.        

SAN FRANCISCO – Tim Brown, 5-7, 180, had 15 rushes for 162 yards and 3 TDs, all in the first half.

NORTHWEST –Hayarden Sullivan, 5-9, 185, ripped off 159 yards vs. Itawamba          

HANCOCK – Michael Santos, 5-10, 180, 34 carries for 155 yards and 2 TDs in 35-14 win over Ventura.

FRESNO – Frosh Nate Wright, 5-10, 180, 14 carries for 146 yards and TDs of 67, 25 and 5 yards.      

MERCED – Freddie Bland, 5-11, 215, who played for Modesto in the 90s, 20 carries for 155 and 2 scores, in 45-42 win vs. Chabot

CITRUS – Pre-season Grid-Wire AA Quinton Ganther, 5-10, 195, 18 lugs for 134 yards and 2 scores in 31-20 victory over LA Harbor.

CERRITOS – Carlos Velasquez, 5-10, 190, 27 for 133 and TD and 2-point PAT, 15-12 vs. Riverside

GRAND RAPIDS, - Eddie Davis, 5-9, 195, rambled for 133 yards on 21 carries vs. DuPage    

BLINN – Derrick Ross, 6-0, 230, ran for 125 yards on 13 carries and scored twice and his 3G totals of 46-507-9 are way out in front of other Southwest JC backs.       

PASADENA – The only thing going right for PCC in 66-7 loss to Mt. San Antonio was Jerome Harrison who registered 17 lugs for 104 yards.

IOWA CENTRAL – Larry Turner leads Iowa Conf. with 93 carries for 398 yards and 4 TDs after 3 games.

RECEIVERS

PIMA – Brian Hare, 6-2, 190, a Harper transfer, caught 6 for 247 yards and 2 TDs in 33-21 loss to Snow two weeks ago.

TRINITY VALLEY – Kenneth Shelton, 6-1, 180, caught 8 passes for 208 yards vs. NEO         

BLINN - Rashod Turner , 6-1, 170, grabbed 6 balls for 160 yards and 3 TDs and Kevin Austin, 5-11, 175, 6-111-1.

CANYONS – WR Terrell Stanley, 6-2, 200, has taken the lead receiving spot after Tyrell Smith of the Cougars became ineligible.  Caught 6 for 108 and returned a kickoff 26 yards vs. Pierce.

CHAFFEY – Cody Sorenson, 6-2, 185, 4 catches with 3 going for 59, 11 and 11-yard scores.  He is 18-343-21.4-5 in 3G

GROSSMONT – TE Xavier Campbell, 6-4, 250, who played for DeLaSalle HS, 5 catches for 84 yards (9-147-16.3-2)

SADDLEBACK – Colorado St. transfer, frosh Julien Petit, 6-3, 190, caught 9 for 102 and 2 TDs in season debut.

TYLER – Ashian Davis 5-8, 185, caught 3 passes for 134 yards and 2 TDs, one for 80 yards and Robert Spells, 6-1, 185, grabbed 3 for 111 and a pair of scores.

DEFENSE

MARIN - Brian Shanahan, 6-2, 220, 13 tackles, 2 sacks, in 28-24 win over Gavilan.

SANTA BARBARA – Mike Conley, 6-0, 225, 6 solo, 9 assists, a TFL, 1 fumble rec. and a pass breakup, in 20-7 win vs. LA Valley

L.A. SOUTHWEST – Frosh Wendell Jones, 6-2, 180, had 3 solo, 6 assists, 2 interceptions, returning one for a 72-yard TD.

SOUTHWESTERN – LB Miles Bush, 10 tackles, 4 assists, 2 caused fumbles, 1 recovered and a sack vs. San Bernardino.

GROSSMONT – LB Bobby Kelly, 6-4, 210, 10 tackles, forced a goal-line fumble resulting in a touchback and DT Dan Widders, 6-5, 275, 4 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 hurries.

JONES – LB Josh Chapman, 6-0, 230, 8 tackles, a sack and 3 interceptions, in 26-13 win over Coahoma

ORANGE COAST – Fr. LB Joe Mitchell, 6-0, 210, 10 solo and 4 assists in 30-7 loss to Saddleback, and DB Nick Dominelli 6-2, 200, 8 solo with 6 assists.

RIVERSIDE – DE Latrell Myers, 6-4, 240, 10 solo, 6 assists, fumble recovery and tackle for 9-yard loss and frosh DB Grayland Walter, 6-2, 190, 2 interceptions and 4 solo stops in loss to Cerritos

CERRITOS – DT Vince Fuela, 6-1, 290, a U. Arizona transfer, 8 tackles, 3 for losses and 4 QB hurries vs. Riverside.

MORRISVILLE – LB Jamar Atkinson, recorded 18 tackles in 17-10 win over Hudson Valley

TYLER – LB Yamil Lebron, 6-1, 260, 6 tackles, 2 sacks and returned a fumble for a TD in 41-17 defeat of Cisco

BLINN – DE Lester Johnson, 6-3, 225, had 5 sacks, 5 tackles, caused a fumble and had a hurry vs. Ranger

OTHERS

MODESTO – Jody Cooper, 6-0, 200, threw a TD pass and had 6 punts for 40.0 avg. in 21-8 win vs. Hartnell

EAST MISSISSIPPI – Will Mosley kicked 50, 51 and 55-yard field goals and 5-5 PATs, (6-6 and 4-4).

KILGORE – NJCAA pre-season AA Billy Brubaker, hit on all 4 of his PATs, banged home a 47-yard FG and had 3 kickoffs go thru the end zone.
