Antelope Valley Rushes to 33-14 Win

Antelope Valley College turned the tables on the predominately running Mt. San Jacinto, outgaining them on the ground and taking the 33-14 win in a Foothill Conference game in Lancaster. The Marauders (4-2, 3-1) got 159 yards on 14 carries from Jamar Day, marking the third straight week the sophomore from Rosamond has gone over the century mark.

The last Marauder to have three straight 100+ yard games was DeAndra Cobb, who ironically got his hat trick against the same three as Day, and in the same order -- Southwestern, SD Mesa and Mt. San Jacinto. Cobb currently plays for Michigan State. Day scored two of the Marauder touchdowns.

The Eagles (1-5, 1-3) tried testing out a shaky passing attack early on, but Richard Newton returned an interception for 48 yards for a TD, then Jerry Williams returned the next Alan Norman pass for a touchdown that was called back because of a penalty.

The Eagles then went back to the ground exclusively until late in the game and gained only 50 yards in passing. Norman almost matched his passing numbers as he gained 43 yards on four carries, including a 46-yard TD on a quarterback option from the winged-T formation the Eagles use nearly exclusively.

The Marauders, on the other hand spent the first half with the pass setting up the run. With Day and Kasey Young always a threat to get big gainers, Jared Romo went 10 for 13 in the half for 120 yards and a touchdown to Jason Smith.

AVC ended the day with 381 yards in total offense, with 261 yards on the ground, while Mt. San Jacinto gained 243 yards overall and 193 of those on the ground.

Then it was exclusively to the ground as AVC attempted only one pass in the second half and pulled away to the 33-14 win.
