Mission Conference Players of the Week Five

Here's a look at the top performances in week five from the Mission Conference. Thank you to Mission Conference SID Eric Mendoza for compiling the list from the nominations of the Mission's twelve football programs.

 2001 Mission Conference "Players of the Week" – Week 5

Quarterbacks

• Palomar's Andy Goodenough (6-4, 217, So, QB, Corvallis, Ore.) completed 30-of-44 passes for 347 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.

• Saddleback's Jason Whieldon (6-1, 190, So, QB, Orange Lutheran) connected on 18-of-25 passes for 233 yards and four touchdowns.

• Pasadena's Nathan Chandler (6-7, 250, So, QB, South Lake Carroll, Tex.) completed 19-of-27 passes for 272 yards (3 TDs, 1 INT) and added 37 yards rushing.

• Riverside's Ronnie Hill (6-1, 190, Fr, QB, Temecula Valley) ties his own school single-game passing record with 334 yards on 13-of-29 passing and three TDs.

 

Running Backs

• Cerritos' Josh Herrera (6-0, 197, Fr, RB, La Habra) ran for 112 yards on 16 carries.

• Long Beach's Craig Richardson (5-10, 181, Fr, RB, Wilson) ran for a game-high 98 yards on 16 carries (6.1 ypc) and led the Vikings with seven catches for 58 yards.

• Santa Ana's Brandon Fischer (6-0, 220, So, RB, El Dorado) carried the ball 32 times for 179 yards with one touchdown; and caught five passes for 30 yards and a score.

• Orange Coast's Niles Mittasch (6-0, 195, Fr, RB, Eugene, OR) ran for a career-high 143 yards on 22 attempts and scored once.

• Riverside's Luke Rowley (6-2, 240, So, FB, Temecula Valley) had 11 carries for 55 yards and two TDs, and added on reception for 31 yards.

 

Receivers

• Palomar's Deondre Alexander (5-11, 175, So, WR, Fontana) caught 10 passes for 164 yards and two TDs.

• Palomar's Ben Bresnahan (6-2, 185, Fr, WR, Fallbrook) hauled four passes for 76 yards and two TDs.

• Riverside's Kurt Siebert (5-11, 185, Fr, WR, Norco) had two receptions, both going for scores of 25 and 79 yards.

 

Defense

• Cerritos' Shalom Tuimalealiifano (6-5, 260, Fr, DE, Hawaii) tallied 11 tackles (five solo), two for loss.

• Fullerton's Adam Lancisero (5-9, 193, Fr, LB, El Modena) forced two fumbles, recorded 10 tackles (four solo), one sack, one QB hurry, and broke-up one pass.

• Cerritos' Justin Burks (6-1, 220, Fr, LB, Bellflower) recorded eight tackles and three QB sacks.

• Palomar's Ray Holdcraft (6-1, 248, So, OLB, Newport News, VA) had eight tackles (one for loss) and 1.5 QB sacks.

• Mt. SAC's Wes Johnson (5-11, 215, Fr, LB) had 12 tackles (eight solo), one QB hurry, and forced a fumble.

• Orange Coast's Daniel Steinau (6-0, 200, Fr, LB, El Toro) had 11 tackles (eight solo).

• Santa Ana's Peter Sekona (6-0, 230, So, FS, Magnolia) registered 10 tackles (eight solo), one interception and one pass breakup.

• Orange Coast's Adrian Calloway (6-3, 190, Fr, DB, Murietta Valley) posted 11 tackles (nine solo) and two knockdowns.

    

Kick Returns/All-Purpose/Total Offense

• Pasadena's Jonathan Smith (5-9, 180, So, RB/KR, Narbonne) had three touchdowns and 248 yards from scrimmage: 163 rushing on 19 carries (TD); and 89 yards receiving on four catches (2 TDs).

• Saddleback's Keller Christensen (5-10, 210, So, LB/RB, OR) made eight tackles (two solo stops for loss), deflected a pass for an INT, then intercepted a batted ball — in his first start at linebacker; on offense, he had 50 yards on runs of 29 and 21.

• Fullerton's Thaddeus Lewis (5-10, 180, So, CB/KR, Cypress) had three kick returns for 178 yards (59.3 avg.), including a 98-yard score on the opening kickoff; on defense, he led the Hornets with 11 tackles (five solo), had one pass break-up.

• Cerritos' Jermaine Whiten (5-10, 205, Fr, RB/KR, Cerritos) had three kickoff returns for 124 yards, and added 33 yards on 14 carries (TD).

 

 

Punting/Kicking

• Saddleback's Jesse Harmon (6-2, 190, So, P, Mission Viejo) punted six times for 202 (33.6 avg.), but pinned El Camino inside its own 20 four times.

• Palomar's Matt Kovacevich (6-1, 175, Fr, P, Oceanside) punted the ball nine times for 353 yards (39.2 avg) — four going more than 40 yards (including 43, 56, 57).

• Riverside's Mark Baltagi (6-0, 200, So, PK, Riverside Poly) converted all five PATs and kicked a 42-yard FG
