WSC Players of the Week 10-8-01

Citrus and Ventura each had two players named Players of the Week while Glendale, Bakersfield, and LA Southwest each had one.


Running Back--ROBERT THOMAS, Bakersfield

Robert Thomas had an outstanding game for the Renegades. Robert carried 20 times for 235 yards and 4 TD's. Robert is a 6-0 180 lb. sophomore from Las Vegas.

Quarterback--SHAUN ABKARIAN, Citrus

Shaun won the award for the first time. Shaun completed 17 of 27 passes for 222 yards and 2 TD's with 2 interceptions.

Quarterback--CHAD METLAK, Ventura

Chad Metlak came off the bench to have an outstanding game for the Pirates. Chad completed 10 of 18 passes for 166 yards and 1 TD. Chad is a 6-1 183 lb. sophomore from Santa Paula High School.


Linebacker--EDWIN THOMPSON, Citrus

Edwin Thompson had a great game in Citrus' 27 to 15 victory over Santa Barbara. Edwin had 6 tackles and he intercepted a pass and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown.

Defensive Line--CARLOS CORONADO, Glendale

Carlos Coronado won the award for the first time. Carlos had 7 unassisted tackles, 2 assists, 1 pass deflection, 3 sacks, 1 tackle for a loss and 2 hurries. Carlos is a 6-4 240 lb. sophomore.

Defensive Back--JAMES WASHINGTON, Ventura

James Washington had an outstanding game for the Pirates. James had 4 unassisted tackles, 6 assists, 1 pass break up, 1 hurry, 1 block of a field goal and 1 interception. James is a 6-2 197 lb. sophomore from Parkland High School in El Paso, Texas.

Linebacker--CHRIS BOHANNON, L.A. Southwest

Chris Bohannon won the award for the first time. Chris had 9 unassisted tackles and 3 assisted tackles in a 7-6 loss to Compton. Chris is a 6-2 220 lb. sophomore from Crenshaw High School.


ROBERT MATHENEY (Allan Hancock) carried 13 times for 83 yards and 2 TD's. 

RYAN CANFIELD (Allan Hancock) completed 9 of 13 passes for 191 yards and 1 TD.

CHAD CLARK (Allan Hancock) had 6 catches for 96 yards and 1 TD.

MARQUIS BRIGNAC (Canyons) rushed for 91 yards and 2 TD's.

DARRYL MURPHY and JOEY LAPORTE both of Canyons intercepted passes which both returned 52 yards for touchdowns. 

CEDRIC THOMPSON (Canyons) caught 4 passes for 48 yards, returned 5 punts for 35 yards and returned 4 kickoffs for 116 yards giving him 199 all-purpose yards.

CLIFF GATLIN (Glendale) carried 36 times for 136 yards and 1 TD.

RANDY BECKMAN (Glendale) had 4 unassisted tackles, 8 assists, 1 interception and he returned a blocked punt for a touchdown.

PATRICK PIERRE-LOUIS (Glendale) had 3 unassisted tackles, 5 assists and 1 tackle for a loss.

CORTLANDT FLORENCE (Compton) carried 24 times for 140 yards.

MANDRELL BUTLER (Compton) a 6-0 198 lb. sophomore linebacker from Lakewood High School, had 12 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 1 pass break up and 2 hurries.

JASON PARKER (Ventura) carried 15 times for 85 yards and 1 TD.

AARON NEAL (Ventura) caught 5 passes for 87 yards and 1 TD.

BRYAN EASTERLEY (Ventura) had 2 unassisted tackles, 4 assists and 3 sacks. 

MICHAEL PORTER (L.A. Valley) had 13 tackles, 7 assists, 1 sack, 3 tackles for loss and 3 hurries.

FRANKLIN CALLICOTT (L.A. Valley) had 7 tackles and 6 assists.

WILLIE GREEN (L.A. Valley) had 5 tackles, 1 assist, 1 pass break up and 1 interception.

JASON MITCHELL (L.A. Harbor) caught 5 passes for 34 yards and 1 TD, he returned
