California Week Six Predictions

With most of the teams in California having BYES this week, we have an opportunity to look closely at the 13 games on the schedule. Some good match-ups in the south and the north, including a few make-ups from week two. Here's the Swami's take on Week Six.

California Week Six Predictions

October 13 (Saturday)

Mendocino 34    Siskiyous  21

I like Mendo's offense behind freshman QB Jesse Kozak and big RB Ron Cruz, who leads the state in rushing with 172.8 yards per game (as a single back).  Siskiyous is second to last in total offense in the state.

Shasta 31   Yuba  13

Yuba is on a bit of a skid after winning their first three.  They are thin up front, which will spell trouble against a solid defensive line for Shasta.

Reedley 46   Sierra  31

Reedley can put up points, especially against a Sierra team that is great on offense, but whose defense has given up over 350 yards per game.

Gavilan  27   Marin 21

A battle of "O-fers" with 0-5 Marin vs. 0-4 Gavilan.  Someone has to win.  Marin can move the ball on offense, but the defense is last in the state.  Gavilan has come close a few times and has some athletes.

San Jose 37   Monterey Peninsula  27

Two of the state's best tailbacks go head-to-head with Reymon Murphy and Antowain Vaughns.  I thing San Jose has more depth than a good MPC team with low numbers.

Laney 34  Contra Costa  20

Laney is good.  Real good.  This will be the first real test for 5-0 Contra Costa.  I don't think Contra Costa has the linemen on either side of the ball to compete with Laney.

San Mateo 31    Santa Rosa  27

Two very good teams.  I think San Mateo will get it together after dropping their last game to Laney.  This is close and could go either way.

Bakersfield 24    West Hills  13

This should be a low scoring game wih two great defenses going head to head.  There will be some hitting going on.  I think the BC defense will win this game for them.

Cerritos  37  Canyons  28

Two high octane offenses.  Could go either way.  I pick Cerrito because Canyons' pass defense has been suspect this season and I expect Cerritos to take advantage of that.

Chaffey 42  Victor Valley 20

Chaffey is the real deal.  They should be able to get by VVC.  However, VVC has some weapons and can easily sneak up on a sleeping giant if Chaffy isn't ready to play.

Mt. San Jacinto 27   Desert  17

Two teams off to a reasonably good start.  I think Mt. JAC will rebound from their loss to Grossmont.  This is a make it or break it game for Desert.

Antelope Valley 34   SD Mesa  31

Who'd have guessed that these two would both be 4-1 after five weeks?  Should be a great game.  I think AVC has the tools to pull it out.

Grossmont 38  Southwestern 20

What happened to Southwestern?  Off to a 1-4 start and in the cellar of the Foothill.  Tough time to play one of the Foothill's best teams.

BYES: All other teams in state.
