El Camino got the best of many of
the statistics, and the Warriors' RB Alvin Marshall had a spectacular game.
El Camino generated 484 yards of total offense, highlighted by
Marshall's 150 yards rushing and 102 yards receiving on 5 catches.
Marshall also returned 5 kickoffs for 111 yards to finish the night with
365 all-purpose yards and 3 touchdowns. QB
Ryan Gilbert went 17 of 29 for 269 yards and a TD.
Cerritos' secret to success in
this game was their ability to make the key play at key times.
The Falcons' offense rolled up 328 yards on the night, and they had
just one running play longer than 9 yards.
But they cashed in on their opportunities and used long, time-consuming
drives to keep the ball out of Marshall's hands.
And then there were the three big
plays for Cerritos. El Camino had just kicked a FG to narrow the Falcons' lead
to 7-3 early in the 2nd quarter when the first one happened:
Jermaine Whiten returned the ensuing kickoff 69 yards.
Josh Herrera scored from a yard out less than 3 minutes later to give
Cerritos a 14-3 lead. The second
was an 86-yard pass from Harrison to Chris Chatman with 8 seconds left in the 3rd
quarter to give Cerritos a 34-24 edge entering the final quarter. And the third was Philip Perry's interception and 67-yard
touchdown return in the 4th quarter to make it 41-24 and seal the win
for Cerritos. That interception was
the only turnover for either team in the game.
El Camino falls to 2-4 despite the
heroics of RB Alvin Marshall, who topped the century mark in three different
categories and scored the Warriors' first 3 touchdowns.
His 74-yard pass reception from Gilbert came one play after his
24-yard kickoff return. His
18-yard scoring run midway through the second quarter brought El Camino to
within striking distance at halftime and his third touchdown gave the Warriors a
third-quarter lead. Then his
62-yard run in the waning moments set up El Camino's final TD.
Marshall ended up with game-high totals in both rushing and receiving as
well as touchdowns.
For Cerritos, QB Harrison finished
with 257 yards on 13 of 18 and 2 TDs. Chatman
totalled 114 yards on his 3 catches. TE
Fausto Gonzalez, who scored the Falcons' first TD on a pass from Harrison, had
a team-best 4 catches. DE Chris
Eagen had both of Cerritos' QB sacks. The
Falcons move to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in conference with this win.
