RANCHO CUCAMONGA--On Saturday the No. 3 team faced the No. 2 team in
Southern California. No, it wasn't Oklahoma vs. Nebraska, but Chaffey hosting Grossmont.

Jeff Disney threw four touchdown passes to four different receivers to lead Chaffey to a 38-18 win over the previously undefeated Griffins.

"Our game plan is always to spread the ball to the different receivers," said Disney. "Any time four different guys can score, it's great."

Grossmont (6-1, 4-1) took a 6-0 lead after it recovered a fumble on the Panthers 29. Two plays later Griffins quarterback Nick Forston threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Enrique Duncan with 12:18 left in the first quarter.

Chaffey (7-0, 5-0) cut the lead in half, 6-3 as Jonathan Palmer kicked a 27-yard field goal with 5:20 left in the first half.

"Our defense came out great and kept us in the game in the first half," said Disney.

Disney then threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Artie Allen with 5 seconds left in the first half to give the Panthers a 10-6 lead. Chaffey covered 98 yards in nine plays, keyed by a 36-yard reception by Lamar Anderson.

"We found they were shading us inside on defense, so I made a one-step drop and threw the fade to the corner," said Disney about the Panthers first touchdown.

Grossmont punter Matt Flisher was tackled on his own 2 after he tried to run with a bad snap. Chaffey's John Bogarin rambled in from two yards out to increase its lead to 17-6 with 8:04 left in the third quarter.  In the second half Disney said the Panthers were able to run some play-action passes and bootlegs. Chaffey was able to capitalize on the Griffins mistakes which gave them huge momentum.

Chaffey's Amon Webster recovered a Griffins fumble on a punt return on the Grossmont 9. Three plays later Disney rolled right and hooked up with tight end Kaleb Madison for a 3-yard touchdown pass to pad the Panthers lead to 24-6.

Grossmont cut the Panthers lead in half, 24-12 with 17 seconds left in the third quarter. Forston hit Jeremy Bush, who caught the ball just off the ground in the end zone on a fourth down play for a 15-yard scoring pass.

Anderson became the fourth Chaffey receiver to haul in a Disney touchdown pass as he caught a 30-yarder over his left shoulder in the right corner of the end zone with 10 minutes left in the game.

"This was a big game for us and our short term goal was to beat Grossmont," said Disney. "We knew that we had to win today and we'd be in for a battle. Our long term goal is to go to a big bowl game."
