WSC Players of the Week 10-30-01

This week's Western States Conference Players of the Week represent four different schools: Bakersfield, Citrus, West Los Angeles, and Ventura.



Andre Smith completed 21 of 42 passes for 303 yards and 3 TD's with 1 interception. Andre is a 6-1 190 lb. freshman from Manual Arts High School.


Chad Metlak completed 15 of 22 passes for 200 yards and 4 TD's. The 4 TD passes tied a school record set by John Ertman in 1973 against West Valley College. Chad is a 6-1 183 lb. sophomore from Santa Paula High School.


Kevin Bryan completed 15 of 30 passes for 278 yards and 2 TD's. Kevin is a 6-1 182 lb. sophomore from Burroughs High School.



Robert Singerman had a great effort for the Oilers in their 34 to 0 victory  over L.A. Pierce. Robert had 13 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and 1 interception. Robert is a 6-2 275 lb. freshman from Culver City High School.


Joe Martin had an outstanding game for the Owls. Joe had 12 tackles, 1 sack, 1 hurry, 1 pass break up and 1 blocked punt.


Cody Murphy, a 6-2 186 lb. sophomore from Buena High School, had 21 tackles (12 unassisted) and 2 tackles for a loss.


J.J. ARRINGTON (Canyons) carried 8 times for 77 yards and a 58-yard TD in the 4th quarter to help the Cougars to a big victory over Allan Hancock.

TYLER SMITH (Bakersfield) kicked the winning field goal with less than a minute to play.

TERRENCE HALL (Bakersfield) caught 6 passes for 105 yards and 1 TD.

IRVING BAPTISTE (Bakersfield) caught 2 passes for 104 yards and 1 TD.

KATRELL CLAYTON (Glendale) carried 43 times for 161 yards and 2 TD's. 

JOE KROELLS (Glendale0 completed 12 of 19 passes for 153 yards and 1 TD, plus he carried 8 times for 57 yards and 1 TD. 

ANDRE NICKELSON (Allan Hancock) carried 16 times for 80 yards.

MICHAEL GADDY (Allan Hancock) carried 15 times for 138 yards and 2 TD's.

JERMAINE MOORE (Allan Hancock) caught 9 passes for 103 yards.

DAVID RELF (Compton) caught 5 passes for 108 yards and 2 TD's (both in 4th quarter to put the Tartars in the lead after trailing 23-6). 

EUGENE CHILDS (Compton) had a 82-yard touchdown reception. 

SHAUN ABKARIAN (Citrus) completed 10 of 20 passes for 160 yards.

NICHOLAS TERRAZAS (Citrus) caught 3 passes for 91 yards and 1 TD.

ERIC SALINAS (Citrus) had 11 tackles, 1 sack and 1 recovered fumble.

RUSSELL PATTON (Ventura) caught 2 passes for 87 yards and 1 TD of 73 yards.

BRIAN CRAIN (Ventura) had 8 tackles (7 assists) and 1 sack.

DREW RAY (L.A. Valley) had 8 tackles (3 assists) and he intercepted a pass which he returned 85-yards for a TD.

JAMES NORRIS (L.A. Valley) tied a school record with a 96-yard kickoff return for a TD.

LATE BANKOUADAGBA (West L.A.) graded out at 96% of his blocking assignments.

JERALD SMITH (West L.A.) had 9 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 interception.

PAUL JUST (West L.A.) had 8 tackles, 1 sack and he returned a fumble 23-yards for a TD.

JONATHAN HUNT (Santa Barbara) carried 11 times for 83 yards.

RYAN LOCKNER (Santa Barbara) had 14 tackles (5 unassisted), 2 tackles for loss and 1 pass break up.

CHRIS BAILEY (Santa Barbara) had 12 tackles (5 unassisted) and 1 fumble recovery.

MIKE JASPER (Moorpark) completed 22 of 35 passes for 172 yards.

JAMES GROSS (Moorpark) had 10 unassisted tackles, 4 assists and 1 interception.

KAREEM MERHI (Moorpark) had 9 unassisted tackles.

BOOMER WELLES (Santa Monica) completed 23 of 31 passes for 271 yards.

ERDOLO EROMO (L.A. Southwest) had 6 unassisted tackles, 3 assists and 1 sack.

SALEEM STEPHENS (L.A. Southwest) a freshman defensive back from Hawthorne High School, started his first game at quarterback and he completed 11 of 19 passes for 190 yards. He also carried 15 times for 88 yards and 2 TD's and he returned 3 kickoffs for 58 yards.

MARCUS JOHNSON (East L.A.) caught 9 passes for 102 yards.

WAHI TRAYLOR (East L.A.) had 4 unassisted tackles, 5 assists and 1 sack.

ANTHONY PALOMAREZ (East L.A.) had 1 unassisted tackle, 7 assists and 1 sack.

BAKERSFIELD outgained L.A. VALLEY 413 to 139 yards.

MICHAEL BAUTISTA (Glendale) caught 7 passes for 95 yards and 1 TD.
