Mission Players of the Week 11-4-01

El Camino beat previously undefeated Pasadena this weekend. Leading the charge for Coach Featherstone's troops was Alvin Marshal (5-9, 185, Fr, RB/KR, Locke HS). He scored two TDs and compiled 242 all-purpose yards: 109 rushing on 21 carries; 52 receiving on seven catches; and 81 kickoff yards on 3 returns.

Mission Conference Stats and Standings

Quarterbacks

El Camino's Ron Venters (6-3, 190, Fr, QB, Bakersfield), making his first college start, threw for 273 yards and three TDs (20-of-30, no INTs) in a win against No. 1 Pasadena.

Palomar's Andy Goodenough (6-4, 217, So, QB, Corvallis, Ore.) completed 18-of-35 passes for 360 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Cerritos' Mike Harrison (6-2, 210, So, QB, Mayfair) connected on 21-of-34 passes for 249 yards and three TDs.

Pasadena's Nathan Chandler (6-7, 250, So, QB, Southlake, TX) completed 18-of-29 passes for 254 yards and rushed 13 times for 68 yards and two TDs (8, 11).

Saddleback's Jason Whieldon (6-1, 190, So, QB, Orange Lutheran) completed 20-of-37 pass attempts for 337 yards (3 TDs, 5 INTs) in a loss at Palomar.

Running Backs

Pasadena's Jonathan Smith (5-9, 180, So, RB, Narbonne) ran for 174 yards on 27 carries, scored one TD, and caught five passes for 53 yards.

Palomar's Rory Palmer (6-2, 225, Fr, RB, Mt. Carmel) ran for 167 yards on 30 carries and two TDs.

Long Beach's Craig Richardson (5-10, 180, Fr, RB, Wilson) rushed for 169 yards on 24 carries and caught three passes for 31 yards.

Fullerton's Rashaad Bell (5-11, 210, Fr, RB, Portland, OR) ran for a career-high 101 yards on 13 carries (7.7 ypc) and scored from 17 yards out.

Santa Ana's Brandon Fischer (6-0, 220, So, RB, El Dorado) led the Dons with 126 yards rushing on 29 carries.

Saddleback's Darren Shorter (5-11, 195, Fr, RB, Cypress) carried the ball 18 times for a season-best 135 yards. He also caught five passes for 101 yards and a TD of 23 yards.

Receivers

Palomar's Ben Bresnahan (6-2, 185, Fr, WR, Fallbrook) caught eight passes for 204 yards and two TDs. He also ran back two kickoffs for 80 yards.

Fullerton's Terrance Moore (6-5, 195, So, WR, Cypress) had a career-day with five catches for 164 yards and two first-quarter TDs (69, 50).

Cerritos' Chris Chatman (6-5, 200, So. WR, Tustin) had eight receptions for 129 yards, including two TDs (35,20).

Long Beach's Darren Ross (6-1, 165, Fr, WR, LB Poly) caught eight passes for 150 yards, including a 14-yard score.

Riverside's Kurt Seibert (5-11, 185, Fr, WR, Norco) caught five passes for 104 yards.

Pasadena's Octavius Spencer (6-3, 210, Fr, WR, Denver, CO) caught five receptions for 103 yards.

Riverside's Ricky Moore (6-0, 185, Fr, WR, Paloma Valley) hauled in three catches for 41 yards and two TDs.

Mt. San Antonio's Aaron Hosack (6-6, 210, So, WR) grabbed five passes for 86 yards, including two TDs.

Defense

El Camino's Brian Smith (6-2, 225, Fr, LB, Peninsula) had a game-high 16 tackles (eight solo) and added one QB sack.

Riverside's Curtis Edwards (6-1, 200, So, DB, Rubidoux) had 10 tackles (eight solo), one pass breakup, and his 48-yard fumble return for a TD proved to be the game-winner over Mt. SAC.

Mt. San Antonio's Donte Nicholson (6-2, 200, Fr, DB, Diamond Bar) led the Mounties with 12 tackles (eight solo), and one QB hurry.

Saddleback's Mike Mudge (5-11, 165, Fr, DB, Aliso Niguel) intercepted two Palomar passes and batted another pass down, to go along with his seven tackles.

Riverside's Larry Rice (6-2, 215, So, LB, Moreno Valley) led the Tigers with 13 tackles (11 solo) and a tackle for loss.

Pasadena's James Griffin (6-2, 190, Fr, LB, Memphis, TN) had eight tackles and blocked an extra point.

Fullerton's Ben Wilson (6-3, 240, Fr, De, Brea Olinda) registered a career-high 3.5 QB sacks for minus 21 yards.

Riverside's Anthony Hopkins (6-3, 235, So, DL, Rancho Verde) had eight tackles (six solo) and two QB sacks for minus 13 yards.

Pasadena's Curt Lowther (5-10, 175, So, DB, Southridge,  FLA) had one interception, one fumble recovery, and added six tackles.

Cerritos' Charles Allgood (6-0, 190, So, FS, Washington) made eight tackles and returned an INT 85 yards for a score.

Riverside's Wil Goff (6-6, 250, So, Redlands) recorded nine tackles (six solo) one INT and 1.5 QB sacks for 15 yards.

Pasadena's Darryl Moore (5-9, 165, FR, DB, Monrovia) broke up three passes and registered four tackles.

Cerritos' Chris Eagen (6-4, 262, So, DE, Pacifica) registered nine tackles (two for loss) and two QB sacks.

Long Beach's Deshawn Gibbs (6-0, 260, DL, West Haven, CT) had two sacks for a combined loss of 16 yards.

Fullerton's Scott Lambert (5-10, 210, So, PK, Servite) made FGs from 39 and 46 (career-long) yards out, converted all four PATs, and booted three kickoffs through the endzone.
