WSC Players of the Week 11-8-01

This week's top performances from the Western State conference were from players at Allan Hancock, Glendale, Moorpark, L.A. Harbor, and East Los Angeles.

Offense--

RUNNING BACK--DARIUS HODGES, East L.A.

Darius Hodges, a sophomore, carried 28 times for 144 yards and 4 TD's.

 

RUNNING BACK--CHASE SCHMIDTZ, Moorpark

Chase Schmidtz had an outstanding game for the Raiders. Chase carried 32 times for 278 yards and 4 TD's. Chase is a 6-0 203 lb. freshman from Meridian, Washington.

 

RUNNING BACK--MICHAEL GADDY, Allan Hancock

Michael Gaddy carried 12 times for 121 yards and 2 TD's plus he caught a pass for 21 yards and returned a kickoff 59 yards giving him 201 all-purpose yards. Michael is a 6-0 205 lb. freshman from Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

 

Defense--

LINEBACKER--SERGIO BARAJAS, Allan Hancock

Sergio Barajas had a great game for the Bulldogs in their 20 to 14 voctory over L.A. Harbor. Sergio had 9 unassisted tackles, 5 assists, 4 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 1 pass break up. Sergio is a 6-0 190 lb. freshman from Delano High School.

 

LINEBACKER--PATRICK PIERRE-LOUIS, Glendale

Patrick Pierre-Louis had a great effort for the Vaqueros in their 21 to 17 victory over Santa Barbara. Pierre had 6 tackles, 5 assists, 1 sack and 1 tackle for a loss. Pierre is a 6-1 230 lb. sophomore from Miramar High School.

 

LINEBACKER--KEVIN SPERRY, L.A. Harbor

Kevin Sperry had an outstanding games for his team. Kevin had 15 tackles, 11 unassisted, 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 1 interception, 1 pass break up, 1 caused fumble and 2 hurries. Kevin is a 6-2 220 lb. freshman from North Torrance High School.

 

WSC FOOTBALL HIGHLIGHTS

MARQUIS BRIGNAC (Canyons) carried 13 times for 94 yards including 1 TD run of 47 yards.

JOE KROELLS (Glendale) completed 13 of 20 passes for 158 yards and 2 TD's plus he rushed for 64 yards on 6 carries.

KARTRELL CLAYTON (Glendale) carried 25 times for 140 yards. 

ROBERT MATHENEY (Allan Hancock) carried 13 times for 80 yards. S

TEVEN SARUBBI (Allan Hancock) kicked the game winning field goal of 46 yards, then added a 31 yarder for insurance in the Bulldogs 20 to 14 victory over L.A. Harbor. Steven now has 15 field goals on the year (one away from school record). Citrus defense held Bakersfield to 79 yards rushing and 123 passing for 202 yards.

JOE MARTIN (Citrus) had 1 sack, 1 pass break up, 3 hurries and 5 tackles.

CHAD METLAK (Ventura) broke his own school record with 6 TD's versus L.A. Valley. Chad was 16 of 28 for 303 yards and 6 TD's with 1 interception.

AARON NEAL (Ventura) caught 7 passes for 139 yards and 3 TD's.

BRANDY RUSSELL (L.A. Harbor) carried 20 times for 121 yards and 2 TD's.

CHRIS SMITH (L.A. Harbor) a 6-3 250 lb. sophomore linebacker from South Torrance, had 15 tackles, 9 unassisted, 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack.

IMAN WILLIAMS (West L.A.) caught 4 passes for 55 yards, returned 2 kickoffs for 115 yards and 3 punts for 35 yards giving him 205 all-purpose yards.

TONY WILLIAMS (Moorpark) a 5-10 180 lb. freshman quarterback from Oxnard High School, cane off the bench to completed 7 of 7 passes for 157 yards in the leading the Raiders to a come from behind victory. 

BRYCE KLENK (Moorpark) caught 4 passes for 87 yards. 

ZACHARY WASSERMAN (L.A. Valley) completed 19 of 37 passes for 241 yards and he rushed for 2 TD's.

EFREN LOPEZ (L.A. Valley) caught 9 passes for 132 yards.

AMIR RAHMAN (L.A. Southwest) carried 26 times for 122 yards.

CHRIS BOHANNON (L.A. Southwest) had 3 unassisted tackles, 4 assists, 1 interception which he returned 40 yards for a TD, 2 sacks, 1 caused fumble, 1 hurry and 1 pass break up.

CHRIS BAILEY (Santa Barbara) had 13 unassisted tackles and 9 assists.

JAKE CUNNINGHAM (Santa Barbara) had 9 unassisted tackles, 7 assists, 1 caused fumble and 1 pass break up.

RYAN LOCKNER (Santa Barbara) had 7 unassisted tackles, and 9 assists.

EDDIE ROBINSON (Santa Monica) carried 16 times for 95 yards.

BOOMER WELLS (Santa Monica) completed 15 of 31 passes for 168 yards and 2 TD's.

TREMAINE MITCHELL (Santa Monica) caught 6 passes for 77 yards.

ROBERT LOERA (East L.A.) completed 19 of 30 passes for 194 yards.

CIPRIANO MONTES (East L.A.) caught 6 passes for 76 yards.

ANTHONY PALOMAREZ (East L.A.) had 2 unassisted tackles, 1 sack and 4 assists.

RAYMOND GRAJEDA (East L.A.) had 2 unassisted tackles and 5 assists.

SHAWN SOUTHERN (Glendale) had 6 unassisted tackles, 2 assists and 2 sacks.

SHANNON BUTLER (Allan Hancock) a 5-9 185 lb. freshman defensive back from Lincoln High School in Florida, had 5 unassisted tackles, 3 assists, 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery (both inside 5-yard line) and he blocked a field goal.

ERIC SALINAS (Citrus) had 9 tackles.

ZAC BRYANT (Citrus) had 3 sacks and 5 tackles.

STEPHEN ESPINOZA (Citrus) had 1 sack and 7 tackles.

JAMES WASHINGTON (Ventura) had 4 unassisted tackles, 3 assists, 1 pass break up, 1 fumble recovery and 1 blocked of a PAT.

JAMES NORRIS (L.A. Valley) returned 4 punts for 104 yards,  5 kickoffs for 96 yards, he rushed for a yard and he caught 2 passes for 7 yards giving him 208 all-purpose yards.

JERALD SMITH (West L.A.) had 19 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.

ERDOLO EROMO (L.A. Southwest) had 6 unassisted tackles, 1 assist, 2 hurries and 1 caused fumble.

CHRIS FLEMING (Santa Barbara) had 7 unassisted tackles and 8 assists.

MARTIN ARCE (Santa Monica) had 8 tackles, 1 assist and he intercepted a pass which he returned 26 yards for a TD.

RICH ROMAN (Santa Monica) had 5 tackles, 1 assist and 1 fumble recovery.

VICTOR ALEXANDREA (East L.A.) had 3 unassisted tackles and 2 assists.
